The host was a super gracious and helpful person. Helped with the luggage up the stairs into the bedroom and even went out of his way to clean my rented car in the morning after a heavy snowfall! Room had all the necessary ammenities, so no complaints there.

Satoe-san was very warm and welcoming. She made us breakfast upon request (need to order 3 days before the stay). Food is delicious, especially the firm Gokayama tofu and original dip she made! The location is perfect if you are coming from Shirakawago like us. It is in Gokayama which is also a heritage site. They have gassho houses that are equally beautiful and not as crowded as Shirakawago. We felt at home at Guest House Yamashita-ya. Hope we get a chance to stay again!

It was one of the most enjoyable, authentic stays we have had! Our hosts were very kind and helpful. They took great care of us from the meals they served, to the facilities they tended, and the hot water bottles they provided each night to ensure our futons were cozy warm on very cold nights. The meals were excellent - healthy, delicious, and abundant. We would love to return!
Warm and welcoming guest houses are ideal for travelers who prefer laid-back accommodations with a personal touch. Usually family run, these hosts will provide local recommendations and even optional meals. Guest houses sometimes feature a cozy living room or a garden – and are still cheaper than most regular hotels.
Self check-in, so we did not meet the host, but albums found in the apartment were very helpful. Great location in Shirakawa-go (close to the city itself, as well as the viewpoint), close to the only market in the city.
This is a very nice guesthouse, the host was a lovely lady who understood English well and encouraged us to try to speak Japanese. The room was nice with a bathroom with toilets just for us outside our room. There are 2 rooms each has access to a dedicated bathroom. The kitchen and living room is common to all the guests. The equipment in the kitchen is good. With also leaflets and books to borrow. We came for the lights up event in Shirakawa-go and we had a lift to and from the event.
Lovely accommodation and lovely host! This guesthouse was so cute and the host really went out of his way to make my stay comfortable. The kitchen is amazing and there is free tea and coffee, and if you’re not wanting to venture out for a meal there’s noodle packets and snacks for a VERY cheap price! Common area is lovely and spacious :)
Accomodation was nice and clean. Host was super nice. There was powerful hearing on the room so it was warm.
Common space was very cozy. There was a possibility of buying some good and drinks for wery cheap if you had a tooth.
Great value for price.
heating works well ; private baths and toilet ; quiet at night, responsive host who supplied generously microwave meals ( curry , rice) and fruits ; host helped us book a table at irori restaurant in village , provided lots of helpful info on whereabouts of gassho houses to visit , signature eats in village and best places for photos etc ; 10 min walk from
village bus terminal; near convenience store
Only a few minutes away from the city center
We were invited over to the guesthouse next door to have Sushi from a sushi chef
Spacious room
Great shower
It is a guesthouse that is closer to an original youth hostel: two bedrooms in dormitory style, where the common area is more comfortable than the bedrooms!
The owner is quite sympathetic.
Good wifi connection.
Amazing way to spend a night in Shirakawago and to experience a quiet evening, night, and early morning in the village. Clean, modern, very spacious. Very welcoming. Beautiful morning view. Bus terminal, village, a convenience store store all within walking distance. Our host was was very thoughtful before our arrival as well as with our unexpected late arrival (due to weather). We wish we stayed longer, and we hope to return to WAY Shirakawago.
*Good location, fresh air/great view
*the host is very nice and friendly. He drove us to the bus stop next day so that we can save some time to wait for the bus.
i was also very suprised that it is super easy to reach to the 『合掌村(Gassho Zukuri Folk Village)』by foot from bus stop.
There is a high CP value barbeque restaurant nearby the guest house
