The plum sake, the warm futon bed futon and the long conversation by the wood-stove were amazing and warmed up both my body and my soul after a long day of winter sightseeing. The oto-san kindly saw me off to the station when the buses had stopped and the oka-san explained me one of their family sake recipes. Will absolutely come here again in summer.

Even though I didn't speak Japanese well, they helped me out the whole time by speaking simply and listening patiently. I learned so much about cows and dairy farming and life in Japan's countryside. I enjoyed touring the farm, bringing the hay bales back from the pasture, the illustrated storybook and presentation, Yoshio-san's jokes, seeing the stars at night, the delicious milk and yogurt and hokke, having a bath in a Japanese home for the first time, etc. It was a really delightful stay for someone like me who's grown up and lived his whole life in the city.

Doté d'un jardin et offrant une vue sur la montagne, le Tarochan House est situé à Engaru, à 39 km du parc Kamikawa et à 40 km de l'observatoire Taisetsu. We were very lucky to secure such a great place for our trip! The only downside from our experience was that we only booked for one night. I wish we could have stayed longer. The ambiance of the place was simply astonishing. At night the stars are visible. In the morning, you have a perfect view of the mountains. The facilities inside are clean and modern, despite the traditional look of the house. Yuki-san and Honda-san were extremely kind and accommodating. They made us feel right at home. Our check-out time was a bit earlier than the earliest train, so they let us hang out with their dogs and horses in the farm. They even volunteered to pick us up and drop us off at the station! The place was definitely a pleasant surprise and a hidden gem.
