The common use of the large kitchen, living room and patio was great, we shared with a large family who occupied multiple rooms, and everyone was friendly and respectful. Offering a restaurant and a bakery, Hirschen Wald is located in the village of Wald and features rooms with free WiFi. The location is exceptional, one a one lane road in the mountains of Appenzell. It was mid April but we had a lot of snow every day, but the roads were plowed and the hotel is very accessible, even in poor weather. The hotel is old but the interior is updated and the rooms are large, modern, and very clean. The food is excellent and they cooked two unique Swiss items for us that were not on the menu. The staff is exceptional.

Surrounded by hills and mountains, the family-run Hotel Landgasthaus Neues Bild, Eggerstanden occupies a historic building, a 10-minute drive from the centre of Appenzell. The hotel was fabulous, the staff was incredibly friendly, and the food was the best we had in all of Switzerland. If you are into hiking this is the hotel for you. We give our stay two thumbs up!
