Hotel in Truckee ( 0.3 miles)
Hampton Inn & Suites Tahoe-Truckee features a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, garden, a shared lounge and terrace in Truckee. We enjoyed the informed friendly staff. At check in the person before us was very upset that there is a $15 parking fee for guests. Because people park and leave their cars to go ski etc. it’s the hotels way to identify who paid to park. The employee stated why there is a parking charge. She was reserved and calm, very professional. I don’t agree that a guest should pay for parking and a slip can be provided to know the difference between cars from ones that park to adventure. However he was very upset, and rude to her. She doesn’t make the decisions as to who pays for what. I greeted her with a smile and understood the parking fee. My encounter was pleasant and very nice. I appreciate Ethiopia and Katie for their customer serves skills and tact. I will return and am okay with having a parking charge to ensure I have a spot. Especially in season. I don’t agree with it, I do understand.

Very understaffed no one at the front desk for most of the time we were there. We arrive for breakfast at 9 AM and they said eggs would be done in a few minutes, we waited 20 no eggs were ever made we had very little food for breakfast and they were screaming kids everywhere. There were crumbs and rainbow sprinkles all over the floor and the place was dirty. Sadly I can’t say I would ever recommend this to anyone anyone because there are simply not enough staff to accommodate all of the gas that showed up and paid for a service that they did not get.
*more towels would have helped *hot water was limited *the frying pans needed to be seasoned: we did one and the other was hopeless *Northstar resort closes early *The gondola is free Overall, I loved it and plan on going back.
If you want to get away from the city, but you aren't sure you want the touristy crowds of Lake Tahoe, then come to Truckee and Donner Lake. A great downtown area with restaurants and shops, but not overdone. Endless hiking trails and running streams/rivers everywhere (this was early June). I will be headed back to Truckee every year to breathe and relax and watch both the sunsets and the stars.
We loved Truckee much more than the busy areas around Lake Tahoe. Truckee is a charming little village. We had really good brunch in town followed by quite an amazing hike around the Donner Summit and the Mount Judah Loop trail. Absolutely loved the Donner lake and all the little rivers and mountains around town.
The city of Truckee is very charming. You have the old Truckee down town, with restaurants, museums and all kinds of store to buy souvenirs and merchandise. Then you have the new Truckee down town that have grocery stores, banks, pet hospitals and more restaurants. The bike path along the river is vantastic, you can ride a long distance or short distance. Beautiful pine trees with the river running thru it. Alpine bliss.
We stayed in Northstar Village south of truckee we found the town of truckee just delightful and charming, full of good restaurants. Very bustling during the day. And the natural food store New moon was superb!
