Gettysburg is a beautiful town and a great effort is made to keep it true to its history. We went to the battlefield site and thoroughly enjoyed it. The guides are so friendly and helpful. Our bus guide was amazing n knowledgeable. The museum was brilliant-any amount of books-naturally but no restaurant! We stayed in the Meade hotel, a former school, called after the general. This was a quick stroll into town which was full of tourists, some doing night walking tours. Great restaurants and pubs, try the Irish one. We returned to drive around the battle-field the following morning and a re-enactment was taking place. Sadly we took our leave of this lovely town.

I love history and Gettysburg did not disappoint. We took several tours that offered great information that was well-known as well as not heard of before topics. Visitors should take the 2-hour bus tour and visit the diorama first to get the overall layout of the 3-day battle. Then, do the in-town tours. Information on the tours will overlap each other but always will offer new info from each of the very knowledgeable guides. The negative side of Gettysburg is the city officials' fault. The main road thru town has a 25mph speed limit, but no one adheres to it and it is obviously not enforced. It is crazy and dangerous how fast the traffic is, and that includes construction trucks and semi-trucks. You can imagine how LOUD the traffic is, to the point when on walking tours, you can not hear a word the guide is saying and it is constant. Also, most of the main sidewalks are very uneven and could not be used by wheelchairs, with some rising up a half foot. During night tours it is extremely dangerous. They are finally getting ready to put in ONE location for public bathrooms as there are none and most businesses don't have bathrooms. Many of the businesses are not barrier free as most have several steps up to go in. There is one port-a-potty behind Mr. G's ice cream. Many of the stores were not open, even if their sign says they should be. This was in July, not an off season. Fall would be the best time to visit when the leaves are falling as you can see far better the lay of the land. The walking tours were at times unbearable due to the heat and humidity. So, if you are a history buff and physically fit, Gettysburg is great, but if you have noise sensitivity and are physically challenged, this is NOT the place to visit.

One of the best preserved battlefields in the nation, along with a community and town that holds it dear and keeps the history alive. Been to Antietam and Sharpsburg is not a desirable town. Gettysburg has everything from the battlefield, museums, stores, restaurants, breweries, exhibits, etc. Always something new to find and see.

It's a most see for all American's! We need to honor our history and more important understand our history and what our ancestors went through and the challenges they faced. It is well Maintained and has great facilities. The ranges are awesome. We did at least three presentations with the rangers and they put you there at the battle with a good understanding of what was happening. A personal reference to actual soldiers fight for their believes and country. We also took one private tour which was amazing. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and drove us all over the park and we relived the sequence of the battle. Get there early and sign up for the tour, check out the daily schedule of events. The cyclorama should be the first thing you do. Don't just drive around. It won't give you a true perspective. If you are able get out and walk as if you were there in July of 1863!

We went to see the battle field and to do some of the tours, which we enjoyed very much, every one of the tour guides was very friendly and answered all of the questions asked! If you are into the history of the civil war you really need to do the tour of the battle field whether it be the self guided or with a tour guide also the show inside the diorama is a must!

Every year we come here for the old time baseball tournament as my son plays in it. We find something new to explore every year. LOVE the updates to little round top! Amazing we can walk to all the monuments in that area now. Explored new museums this year and walked down to get ice cream every night!!!!! Love the new museum, Beyond the Battles, I think it was called. Every where we eat is awesome. Love to eat at Mason Dixon Distillery, Gettysburg Eddie's, Appalachian Brewing ,Sweney's Tavern is a favorite of ours, La Bella Italia-just discovered this year, Hunt's Battlefield Fries, and I am sure I am missing some great places to eat! We have stayed at Best Western, Quality Inn Battlefield, 1863 Hotel and I newest place was Inn at Cementary Hill- all very great places to stay! Loved location of Inn at Cementary Hill!!!! Great museums all around town and battlefields great to explore.
