Experience a different culture, food and way of life. Extremely friendly people and the December weather was a perfect tonic to a long cold dull winter. Crazy driving on the roads - stay in a coach/ taxi if you can.
Just brush up on your bargaining skills before you go. otherwise you'll get ripped off. always go half price of what they quote in the Medina. take your walking shoes too. its such a vibrant place. never seen that many people in one place ever!
We spent three nights in Marrakech and felt it was too long. The biggest problem was the multitude of motorbikes driving in between pedestrians in the crowded and narrow lanes of the medina, which make for terrible air quality and constant harassment. It definitely does not make for a pleasant walking experience. The medinas in other towns we visited, like Rabat or Essaouira, don't seem to have the same bike problem.
Its a very busy place and the Souks are quite overwhelming, my trip was very limited and their were sights I did not see but just being in a local area and eating in local restaurants is fun. You have to learn to be careful how you walk about to ensure you avoid the motorcycles which many people use.
Marrakech is amazing, an assault on the senses and you need to have your wits about you. Kasbah is a great place to stay as it is a nice place and balance to being in the chaos and having a break from it all.
Defo a big culture shock coming from Ireland but it was brillaint, id say it’s probably not a relaxing sun holiday unless staying in a resort. If you like walking around and doing things this is the holiday for you. Also would probably avoid if you don’t like cats as there are lots of cats around the Medina. Lots of activities to do and lots to see, hot air balloon rides, evening in the desert, walking around the endless souks, jemaa elfna which is the big market, the new town (guilez), huge shopping mall. Felt very safe there the entire time and was very cheap over there too. We went at the start of January and it was chilly in the mornings and evenings but nice and warm during the daytime it was perfect for a winter sun destination. We stayed in riad assouel and couldn’t recommend it enough! Loved Marrakech , will defo be back soon
