We enjoyed the buildings the historical centre is worth the visit.People are friendly in Catania and helpful Food is great Wonderful ice creams and pastries.Weather lovely some nice clean beaches would make it a perfect summer break.
Very underrated city, I had previously landed there without visiting as I though it would not be worth, but I was totally wrong! City full of history and hidden gems, the food is delicious and people are extremely kind
A city with a lot to offer but in a very poor state of repair. The amount of graffiti on every building and amount of rubbish on every street corner did not give a very good impression. Catania is best seen at night when neither the graffiti or the rubbish are so visible and the incredible night life takes over. This is by far the dirtiest city I’ve visited and I have travelled to many poor countries throughout the world including Africa and South America and still Catania beats them all.
Do your research, Catania is dirty by British Standards but the city really does have a unique charm. Etna was amazing but we also found so much to do in and around the city. Despite reading other reviews we never felt unsafe and loved the craziness of the city. The attractions are great, something for everyone and all easily walkable. Plenty of restaurants and bars and prices were good. Go to the Be Quiet restaurant ( off Main Street) food was amazing. Make sure you take a copy of your passport on your phone - it’s the law in Italy, we didn’t and got stopped by police on the train to Syracuse. Glad we visited Catania
A city worth visiting. There are restaurants with delicious food, though they can be quite pricey. It's fairly noisy at night, and public transportation can be challenging, with frequent delays. The city boasts many great spots, numerous museums, and exhibitions. I had the chance to attend a Caravaggio painting exhibition. The city's black sand beach is simply magnificent.
It is a real city, with real people, despite the tourists. It was possible to experience the reality of Sicilian life without the pandering to tourist demands for fast food and "Watney's Red Barrel". So much to do and see and a cultural vitality that seemed to have a surprise waiting around the corner. The Caravaggio exhibition was excellent and we lost all sense of time when we immersed ourselves in the Cinema Museum in ZO.
