This location is just beautiful and the stuff of dreams. I happen to be an airplane enthusiast so the close proximity to EDI Airport was such a thrill. I spent the morning drinking coffee and watching the planes land and take off. For those of us old enough to remember, there was a restaurant chain called the 94th Aero Squadron at the edge of major airports. This is just like that but instead of a bombed out French farm house from WWI, this property is set back in time to 1795. If you stay, you have to do the river walk just across the field from the temple. James, the kind caretaker and resident gave me directions and boots are thoughtfully provided for a magical walk that can only be described and a scene out of a Hobbit film. There is a well worn path running along the river and you will meet towns folk and their lovely dogs enjoying the beauty. To the right of the property you will find the old bridge which is really stunning and still open to foot traffic.
The bed is comfortable, the furnishing are grand and functional and every possible need or want was provided by these excellent hosts. I booked an extra day because of these reviews. Do yourself a favor and book 3 or 4 days!!! Dan and James, I am saving money to come back and spend a week!!! Thank you for a lifetime of memories made in just 2 days!

The mansion is beautiful and situated in an estate which is almost park-like. Lovely to stroll around in in the evening. The mansion itself is half-museum half hotel. So its a sightseeing spot as an hotel. Great to spend a night (or two), although fairly pricy for a night sleep. Take the time to spend some hours wandering around in the building and the surrounding lands.
We had lunch in the Bistro which was lovely, staff were very attentive and polite. The Mansion itself is stunning beautiful rooms and a stunning garden. We did not expect to be so impressed.

Provided a great base from which to explore Edinburgh. Used the local buses to get into town (£2) which let's you feel the local vibe. Walked around Musselburgh which is a lovely village.
Exceptionally warm welcome by the hosts Alice and Kevin made the stay exceed our expectations. The twin room was comfy, with ample space and clean and with tv and Wi-Fi had more than we needed. The optional choices for the continental breakfast, brought up to the room was a real luxury and catered very well to us difficult vegans.
The history that it represented and the quirky bits and pieces of the Mansion House were so fascinating…plus the gardens were like something out of Harry Potter. Staff were amazing and provided that family feel around the property.
The grounds and room were absolutely beautiful. Very few hotels get to offer the kind of luxurious atmosphere a castle (I know it's technically an estate house) like this does. It was truly a great experience, and the staff were very friendly as well. I will say we only stayed for one night, so I feel like I didn't get to really soak in the space as well as I would have liked to, but for the time I was there, I felt like I was living in a dream.
Great location, rooms, amazing dinner in restraunt as well as breakfast options.
Would recommend to all.
