Bab Al Samawy is beautiful guesthouse in Luxor.
Owned by Samantha, a personable and knowledgeable English expat, who’s assisted by small but attentive staff, it was an oasis of calm and serenity. After visiting some of Luxor’s crowded historic sites, we were happy to relax and read in the lush garden there, and to take our evening meal under the stars and next to the fire bowl.
Situated on Luxor’s west bank very near the Valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queens, Hatshepsut Temple, and other monuments, Bab Al Samawy is ideally located for exploring these treasures of antiquity, but also its own quiet little world.
Everything here was put together with a designer’s eye, and was of great quality, from the nice soap and thick cotton towels to the beautiful bed linens to the delicious, fresh food. Samantha also arranged for everything we needed, including taxi rides and our hot-air balloon excursion, from carefully vetted local companies. (The balloons take off from the field behind the guesthouse, so even if you opt not to ride one, you can catch the awe-inspiring sight of dozens of the colorful balloons rising into the air from the roof terrace at dawn.)
It was so serene and relaxing, and very reasonably priced; I wish we could have stayed longer. If you’re planning to visit this part of Egypt anytime soon, I wholeheartedly recommend booking a stay here.

Luxor is very green compared to other cities in Egypt.
Luxor is very green compared to other cities in Egypt. I really enjoyed visiting Karnak Temple, amazing columns. Also visited Valley of Kings to view Tut ankh amum was quite impressive considering it's age. Went to Valley of Queens as well which is on a smaller scale. Saw Luxor Temple in the evening when dark but it was rather lovely when all lit up.

travelled in by Go Eygpt Bus (£9) from Hurghada to the west Bank and visited The Valley of the Kings. You can choose 3 tombs from six but it is recommended that you add on Seti 1 and Ramasis 4&5 to experience the true extent and depth of these hidden treasures. There is no need to engage a guide as all the tombs are together and the guides cannot enter the tombs with you so are left with unproductive time to pitch photo packs and ask for extra money. After an exillerating drive to Aswan by A1 Taxis via the 3 Nile Temples at Ensu ,Edfu & Kon Ombo we returned to Luxor East Bank by bus (£10) for the unmissable Luxor & Karnack temples and then acrosed over the the West bank again a bit of R&R and to visit the well worthwhile Valley of the Queens and Carter's House on the way to the airport. The Party was 4 adults self catering being supplied mainly from Carrefore supermarkets .

I hired a driver through my hotel at a very reasonable price and spent one day exploring various historic sites on the west bank, with a second day devoted to the museums and temples of the east side. I could easily have added a 3rd day.

If you like awe-inspiring sights and history Luxor has it all.
If you go to the West bank (Valley of the Kings etc) hire a driver to stay with you and drive around. Its a much bigger area than you imagine and cuts out any stress. Not easy to hire a taxi at monuments.

We had a wonderful experience in Luxor Egypt.
We had a wonderful experience in Luxor Egypt. We were there for 11 days. My husband and I we are elders over 70 years old and from America.
Our host at the AdboNile suite was excellent very attentive when we needed gave us space made sure we always had a tour guide or a ride to wherever we needed to go
The culture and so Egypt is very rich in their hearts, and everyone needs to make money and that since I felt a little aggression even when they said there was no hassle
We learned that being kind and honest without being offended that everyone wants your money seem to work well
Best tip get Egyptian change in dollars so you can share tips which makes everyone very happy
When you give someone a dollar that lasts a long time and makes a world of difference to their world
It’s good to have a guide for the temples, but when the guide is done, let them leave and stay and enjoy the temple more
Make sure you always have bottled water
Easy flowing clothing and if you can keep your head covered, that’s good for the women
The men, they really love women. I think men everywhere love women.
My husband was treated very respectfully and so was I the entire time we do love the Egyptian people very much
However, Luxor is not for the meek so if you go and don’t know the language, be sure to have good host with you and there for you
You can always reach out to me if you want more

The Merryland Hotel has an excellent location. The wonderfu Luxor Museum is a short walk away. We also found a nice independent coffee shop along the front called DV8 reckoned by the manager.
The staff of the hotel are friendly and helpful.
The early call to prayer from the mosque is a welcome reminder that I've is in Egypt and the sound of the school children means that this is not some sterile upmarket offering but rather a hotel that gives you a taste of traditional Egyptian hospitality.
Owner is very kind and helpful.
Good breakfast at the rooftop (jam, yogurt, cheese, scrambled egg, pitta, salad, tea, banana).
West bank of Luxor is much more Egyptian and less tourist-focused than the shiny east bank.
Cold water but clean swimming pool in the courtyard. One minute walk to the shopping street or the riverbank where cheap boats take tourists to the other side. A littlebit village atmosphere around the hotel.
Everything was good, it’s a cozy hotel, very Egyptian style which i loved. The rooftop terrace was the best part, amazing views of the Nile and the Luxor Temple. Breakfast was also very good, with plenty of options and most of them vegetarian. Also we had dinner there and i food was very tasty.
The hotel location is priceless, right across from Luxor Temple.
The terrace excelente view.
Breakfast was very very pleasant with nice variety of fresh fruits and Egyptian food options, really delicious. The service was excellent,
Really nice hotel. Staff is super friendly and location is perfect: nice view on the Nile and close to city center. Rooms are very comfortable and breakfast was the best we had in Egypt. We would definitely come back.
