This is an absolutely charming pub/restaurant in the middle of the Sussex countryside with a few rooms. All around are lovely walks and views, and it is only a shortish drive (albeit down very narrow country lanes) from Lewes, Hove, and Brighton. Our room was very comfortable with a splendid bathroom, and lovely view. We ate dinner on Saturday night and it was inventive and delicious cuisine using a lot of local ingredients. Highly recommended, not least because the owners and staff are particularly friendly.

The camping pod was really cosy and clean, much roomier and more comfortable than I expected. The pods are really well kitted out with kitchenware and home comforts, which is perfect for a solo traveller who can't carry too much with them. Lovely little coffee/tea hamper provided and the hob was really easy to use.
The pods are warm and well lit, with a great little decking area to sit out on into the evening.
Very comfortable beds and bedding, plenty of towels in the shower room and all the little extra things you might need have been thought of.
I would highly recommend the Scallows and would love to visit again myself one day.

Lovely, quaint and cosy space. We loved our stay here and Simone has provided a beautiful space for a getaway. The 'best brownies' were very much appreciated and we ordered a cooked and continental breakfast which was all delicious and plentiful. Would happily stay again.

Very central in the heart of Lewes and close to the train station, about 5-10mins walk away. Also, exceptionally clean. Comfortable flat with everything you'd need - dishwasher, fridge freezer, oven, big tv and comfy sofa. We stayed in Lewes as going to Glyndebourne festival and got the coach from the station. It's on the top floor of a small apartment block with restaurants, lovely shops and pubs nearby so very handy. Even packs of biscuits to make us feel welcome.
So much history. Loved the buildings, the motte and bailey castle, the priory remains in the park, the independent shops and cafés. Everything is within walking distance. Great to have a railway station and Brighton only 9 miles away. Superb views and walks over the South Downs.

Interesting county town.
Interesting county town. A few things to do inside there (eg castle and priory, Depot cinema by the station). Or excellent transport links to coast (Seaford preferable to Newhaven unless you want to catch the ferry to Dieppe) and Brighton of course. The self contained area of Downs to the east are my favourite. Quieter than the main range of the Downs to the south so you can just roam around and enjoy the peace. Or you can walk along the river as far as Newhaven but this can be quite muddy when it's been raining. Beautiful flat walk though if you go when it's dry, or don't mind mud!

I lived near Lewes from 2000 to 2005 so know the area. Am fond of the Riverside area with its eating places, also the High Street. Perhaps not a huge amount going on, and perhaps the "Information Centre" could be
done up/revamped a little more, but the town is in an excellent central location for a holiday spent exploring locally.

Lewis is an old town full of interesting history, lots of old buildings and of course the castle that's always worth the walk up the hill, don't worry if you're not too fit as you can get a local bus to the top of the hill. Lots of wonderful pubs and cafes in the town centre along with some nice restaurants. The town is surrounded by stunning scenery all around.

I stay in Lewes frequently for visits to Glyndebourne.
I stay in Lewes frequently for visits to Glyndebourne. The local taxi firm (GMC Taxis) are very good and are prompt when picking up at the arranged time both to get to Glyndebourne and to return.
The town itself has much to offer with interesting shops and historic places including the Castle.
Hotel accommodation is very limited since the closure of The Shelleys and Pelham House. Parking is expensive

The Dorset on the other hand is a Lovely place to stay and would recommend it to anyone whishing to stay in Lewes.
Very pleasant flat, comfortable throughout. Warm enough when weather is cold. The provision of milk, coffee, etc was welcome. All items needed for kitchen are present. Nice view of bird feeder by kitchen. Frequent buses to Lewes and Brighton. Easy access to walking routes such as South Downs Way.
There are no staff or other facilities at this hotel. It is clean, comfortable and a sleep only hotel. Suitable for visiting Brighton and the surrounding area by car. There is an excellent, regular bus service into Brighton, Lewes, Eastbourne and Tunbridge Wells
The hotel has its style. If one likes rather older decor - go for it. The room was clean and cosy and the location is very good - close to town centre, restaurants, car parks, shops.
The room was nice and spacious. Very comfortable bed. Nice powerful shower. And certainly very clean. The hotel is very central, a short walk away from the high Street.
