Located in the Flemish region of Belgium, the beautiful medieval city of Ghent is a city of history and romance. It's full of hidden historical, cultural and culinary gems that you can easily discover.
The Gravensteen or "Castle of the Count" is a deceptively enchanting sight dating back to the Middle Ages. Constructed by Philip of Alsace, the count of Flanders, it's partially surrounded by a moat and beautifully restored, and hosts an interesting museum about the history of prison life.
Part of the UNESCO World Heritage list, the Belfry of Ghent is a medieval tower overlooking the Old Town centre. Saint Bavo Cathedral and Saint Nicholas' Church are the city's other two towers, with St. Nicholas' Church being one of the oldest landmarks in Ghent.
Enjoy a relaxing walk in the picturesque medieval streets and stop at one of the charming traditional restaurants for Belgium beer and a classic Flemish meat stew with French fries. Local delicacies include the popular Belgium chocolate and the purple jelly-filled candies called the "noses".

Gent is a beautiful city with such a lot of history & charm.
Gent is a beautiful city with such a lot of history & charm. The people are very friendly & nice. The streets are clean & walking around Gent is a very pleasant experience, i would recommend a boat trip along the canal to listen to the interesting history of the city. The food we had in a couple of restaurants was very nice & you should eat a waffle or two as they are very goood!

My new favourite European city!!
My new favourite European city!! The ease of walking around this beautiful city makes it such a pleasure and very relaxing. Most of the old city had no vehicles or motorcycles. Everywhere I looked were beautiful buildings, well maintained, and the canal running through the centre was the icing on the cake! Would highly recommend!

I've been travelling in Europe since 1967, and I can now say that Gent is my favorite city. The churches, the river, the restaurants and cafes, the automobile-free streets, all make Gent a wonderful place to visit or live in.

Ghent is a beautiful city with way fewer tourists than Bruges. It also feels friendlier and not like anyone wants to rip you off.
The food scene is great, although it can be hard to find a restaurant breakfast before 11am. Just buy pastries or waffles instead!

We saw mostly the basics in Ghent (which are impressive).
We saw mostly the basics in Ghent (which are impressive). For us, Ghent also served as a convenient base for a visit to Bruges, and if desired, is also close enough to Antwerp to allow a daytrip by train.
The property was built in 1593 by a Spanish marquis, who traded nearby. This fact alone would be enough to impress me, but in addition the staff is very friendly, the interior makes you feel like you're visiting a nobleman, and the location could not be better.
I spent around 20 days travelling in France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, and Ghent was the city that impressed me most. Erasmus Hotel was one of the reasons for it.
Breakfast was very good and bed very comfortable. Only one thing is that you have to be careful on stairs so not too many beers! Location was good as it close to bus stops. Although having said that I think some accommodation is similar in Belgium to this in having a circular stairs. It was a quiet residential area and the host Kris was very informative. I would recommend it to family and friends.
This is a great budget hotel. The rooms are small, clean and well thought out. You probably won't want to spend much time in them though - but that's okay if you're here to sightsee. The lobby has lots of seating, a bar, outdoor seating/dining and has a warm friendly vibe.
The breakfast was good with plenty of options. From the hotel it's a short ten minute walk into the centre of Ghent.
Comparing with other options, this hotel was a good value for money. The owner was very kind, and helped us with parking, warmed up our food (because of the strict diet, we can only eat the food we cook ourselves).
Even if the hotel is closer to the station, it was VERY quiet and enjoyable. The room was very clean and functional. Staff was extremely polite.
Definitively recommended for a weekend trip in Ghent
