McNeil was excellent - he arranged our airport transfer, our restaurant booking, storage of our luggage, etc. He was extremely professional and helpful. The rooms are very spacious with lots of comforts like plunger coffee, nice large soap, shampoo, body lotion bottles. Soft fluffy towels. Service at Backs restaurant also very good - Mark took very good care of us.

Akademie Street is on another level of care, attention to detail, and hospitality. What an incredible last night in South Africa. As the other reviews state, my only regret was not booking for another night. The facilities are gorgeous. Every room is curated perfectly and the facilities in the room are top-notch and well-thought out. From the heated bed covers, to the cozy fireplace, private outdoor wood-burning hot tub outside of room, the comfiest bed of our entire trip, and a gorgeously designed bathroom. It smelled incredible, felt luxurious, and breakfast was indelible.
I'd be remiss not to mention the best part: the staff!! Declan was a fantastic host. I can't extend my appreciation to Declan and his team enough. After we checked out, they stored our luggage, continued serving us champagne, and allowed us to soak in the hot tub and rinse off in the shower before heading off on our 20+ hour journey back to the U.S.
Note: we stayed at another hotel the night before which had its perks and private vineyard, but we moved hotels to Akademie and had no regrets, other than not booking immediately at Akademie. The location is fantastic. We were a stone's throw away from the main road in town, and walked to the wine tram. So serene, and perfect! We will never forget this little leg of our trip :)

Franschhoek is a tiny beautiful and quiet village near Stellenbosch. There is 1 main road lined with restaurants, shops, and art galleries. There is a lot to see and do in the area. 2 or 3 nights in Franschhoek should be enough.

Definitely worth doing the wine tram, visiting max 4 wine farms to keep it relaxing. The town is delightful, with lots of nice restaurants. The whole region is surrounded by beautiful mountains, it’s a perfect honeymoon destination. We took the blue line and Maison was our favourite wine estate. The tasting in the garden with the mountain views was memorable. Akademie street boutique hotel is a luxurious paradise for your stay

The wine farms are great, close to each other so you spend less time on the road.
I recommend places that offer breakfast as well to avoid spending that much or waking up too early to find a spot to eat as they aren't that many.

It is a great little town with lots of character, amazing restaurants, and access to some of the best wine estates. However, the boutiques and crafts stores are overpriced and feel like they are ripping off tourists.

A wonderful hotel and very friendly and attentive hosts who always go above and beyond. We had a very beautiful and clean room, all the interior design elements were well chosen. The entire interior of the hotel well conveys the atmosphere of the city of Franschhoek. The hotel is well located. If there are not enough spaces on site, there is free convenient parking very close.
The breakfast is amazing, very tasty and beautifully presented.
