The family who run the hotel are so lovely. They helped us find the hotel and navigate the very steep roads. Theu provided parkinf and no need to use your car whilst there as they offer a really helpful free taxi service where they drive you into the town and pick up for free up until 11pm. The rooms were clean and traditional and they were also well maintained with good facilities. I would recommend anyone who wants to see Gjirokaster and visit the castle and town to stay at this hotel! I think the people who run the hotel really made this experience!

The Old Bazaar was absolutely perfect! I wanted to stay in a traditional hotel/house in Gjirokaster and I was not disappointed by the beautiful room -with a small patio and view of the mosque --with its impeccable decorations and gorgeous furniture. The owner has paid attention to every detail, while integrating modern "creature comforts". The bathroom was spacious and had an ample walk-in shower. The common areas for breakfast were absolutely divine with a gorgeous view of the valley below.
I cannot rave enough about the hospitality. Both the owner and her staff, especially the evening/overnight doorman host, were beyond kind and helpful. He especially had lots of tips of where to go in town, and was helpful arranging a taxi to my bus, among other things. The breakfast was fabulous and abundant: fruits, cheese, eggs, Albanian pancakes and honey, delicious coffee and fresh cool water from the local spring. Please make sure you eat a lot because the staff puts tremendous effort and love into this breakfast and it shows. I left early in the morning, and the same evening/night host arranged to have the breakfast ready for me an hour early. I hadn't asked, but it was this sort of attention to detail that makes this place very special.
I was disappointed only that I had just two nights here and couldn't stay longer in Gjirokastër. It is a charming town with incredible views, and a slow pace. Enjoy your time!

The place was very nice,convenient and clean. Very close with all the historical sites in the area with a very reasonable price. The owners of the hotel were offering outdoor activities, too,if you want to explore the landscape of the Drinos river valley. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Bona, the recepcionist is simply great. With her neverending smile, she is always ready to help tlher guests giving directions and advice. Nice, quick, generous and awesome.
She took us to her village and we met her fantastic parents.
Breakfast is homemade and is served hot by her and another two ladies who treated us as if we were part of their family.
The hotel is currently being restored and the 3rd floor is amazing.We stayed on the 2nd floor and in spite of being old rooms they were very clean.
We hope we can come back in the future.

Although Gjirokaster is in all tourist guidelines of...
Although Gjirokaster is in all tourist guidelines of visiting Albania, it is not as touristy as Sarande or Ksamil. It felt very authentic and you can easily find authentic restaurants that are not a tourist trap. The city is quiet, but you can find places to have a drink in the evening. The castle is an absolute must-see even if you've seen historic places a lot in your life. I would also suggest visiting Ali Pasha bridge, since it's a small hike and feels very rural, although quite close to the city.
Keep in mind that the city is located in mountains, so a lot of climbing up and down when moving around. But the city offers so many small restaurants and bars, that you can take a break with a cold drink almost on every corner. We really enjoyed Gjirokaster and will definitely come back.

The city is built on a hill so be prepared to walk a lot and for some great leg workouts! The Castle at sunset has amazing views, the Ali Pasha bridge is very serene and picturesque. The Old Bazaar is very lively with eateries and bars all around. A day trip to the Blue Eye is a must!

After Berat Gjirokastër was the second most beautiful town in Albania.
A must visit when you're in the country.
To my surprise it was quite touristy. The bazaar was a real tourist trap.
But I did like the town, the castle and the museums that could be visited.
Also the very friendly and helpful people of Gjirokastër.
There are several good places to eat. In and close by the bazaar.

The way to Gjirokaster is amazing and comfortable.
We mostly like terrace for sunset, archeological museum and guest house Kore where we stayed.
A specially fun for us was street with night bars, perfect place for a little bit dancing))

Since my last visit in 2010 the town has turned into some sort of tourist trap. Masses of day visitors seem to flood it in the afternoon and you have to leave the "Bazar" area to get some local food at a local level (of price and service).
Be prepared for the steep ascents - particularly on a wet day.

Everything about the town I liked.
Everything about the town I liked. Drove to Blue Eye, which was a pleasant hilly drive with views. Love old town and the history. I spent 2 nights and it was perfect length of stay. Not an easy town to walk in because it is hilly and cobblestone, but walking slow is not a problem! Need a map or a really good sense of direction to find things. Walked to Ali Pasha bridge viewpoint and then hiked down to the bridge.
The Albanian people are so kind, always smiling and ready to help.
The drive from Tirana airport to Gjirokaster was fairly easy. I followed google maps and had no wrong turns. 3 hour drive.
We had a big corner room, nicely decorated with a wooden ceiling and wall paintings.
The whole building felt freshly renovated and was super clean. Shower was so relaxing and of high stNdard
The stuff was very friendly. Breakfast super with eggs/veggis/ cake etc
When you get lost- line we did with google- park at the castle, walk down the stairs and a friendly member of the stuff will navigate you to the hotel
Staying at the pool after a long, exhausting stroll through the steep streets of Gjirokaster was heaven
The hospitality was perfect, the staff was always friendly. we have been served by taxi for free, whenever we need to move. I have not used the car for a single day while I have been there. Free parking, excellent wifi. Very good traditional food and more variety. I will not honor this hotel, whenever I have the opportunity to go to Gjirokaster, I will stay here again. In a word, I was very pleased 🙏👌🌹
