The staff was incredible, very helpful and attentive. The room was clean, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The room included bottled water for free. The staff kept our luggage before our room was ready, and organized a taxi for us early in the morning. The location is perfect, right next to the old town bazaar. The breakfast was pretty good too.

After a long drive we were warmly welcomed and shown our room. The room was large,well furnished and clean. We left before light in the morning so sadly didn't see its surroundings, but would recommend it as a good stopping point near to the Greek border.

It was in a peaceful location just 15 mins walk down the hill to the old town. I can’t say about good things, it’s run by a family, 3 generations, and the place was immaculate. High speed internet, clean sheets and shower. Felt modern and the breakfast kept coming. Best sleep I had this whole trip. Noel, the grandson is sharp and helpful when it came to check in. Would go back to Gjirokaster just to stay they. 10/10

Gjirokastra is a verry special place! I had a verry good time. Everyone is verry welcoming, and the restaurants serve great local dishes with local produce.
The view form the castell is beautiful and the castell it self is fantastic.

Beautiful historic city.
Beautiful historic city. The castle and cold war bunker are a great way to learn more about the cities history, from ancient times to Communist rule. Beautiful shops, great local restaurants and spectacular valley/mountain views. It felt safe and friendly everywhere. Numerous street dogs, but all friendly and relaxed.

Although Gjirokaster is in all tourist guidelines of...
Although Gjirokaster is in all tourist guidelines of visiting Albania, it is not as touristy as Sarande or Ksamil. It felt very authentic and you can easily find authentic restaurants that are not a tourist trap. The city is quiet, but you can find places to have a drink in the evening. The castle is an absolute must-see even if you've seen historic places a lot in your life. I would also suggest visiting Ali Pasha bridge, since it's a small hike and feels very rural, although quite close to the city.
Keep in mind that the city is located in mountains, so a lot of climbing up and down when moving around. But the city offers so many small restaurants and bars, that you can take a break with a cold drink almost on every corner. We really enjoyed Gjirokaster and will definitely come back.

The city is built on a hill so be prepared to walk a lot and for some great leg workouts! The Castle at sunset has amazing views, the Ali Pasha bridge is very serene and picturesque. The Old Bazaar is very lively with eateries and bars all around. A day trip to the Blue Eye is a must!

After Berat Gjirokastër was the second most beautiful town in Albania.
A must visit when you're in the country.
To my surprise it was quite touristy. The bazaar was a real tourist trap.
But I did like the town, the castle and the museums that could be visited.
Also the very friendly and helpful people of Gjirokastër.
There are several good places to eat. In and close by the bazaar.
This place is incredible. Firstly, you are right near all the great spots in Gjirokaster. The hotel itself is stunning—you stay in a building that looks exactly like the buildings you came to see. The view from our room was gorgeous and the interior design of the rooms is something to visit in and of itself. The staff were very kind and breakfast in the morning looked over the city and was delicious.
Perfect location to access the Bazaar and then to the castle, with just a short but steep walk uphill. Quiet area with lovely views of the old town from our balcony. The owner was so helpful and friendly towards us. Newish hotel with traditional decor that matched the feel of the town. Definitely recommend for short breaks in Gjirokaster.
We had the best experience at the Guest House Hostel VAL-MAR. The rooms were clean, very comfortable, and the staff were super friendly, always there when needed. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Gjirokaster. Will definitely stay here again, thank you so much!
