Spreading for hundreds of kilometres from the mouth of the Oslofjord, Oslo is the largest city by area in Europe and is liberally covered in pristine forests rising up into the outlying hills. South of the unassuming city hall lies a vibrant waterfront known as Aker Brygge, which in summer is full of bustling outdoor restaurants and bars.
For the prettiest buildings head to affluent inner-city suburbs of Frogner and Fagerborg, or admire the traditional Scandinavian wooden houses of Bygdøy and Holmenkollen. Monumental buildings include the Royal Palace which runs daily tours and the Akershus Festning, which is a medieval castle that also served as a military base and provides impressive views of the Oslofjord. Oslo City Hall, or rådhus, offers even more distinctive architecture and it is the location of the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony.
Nature is never far away in Oslo which is ringed by an archipelago of islands which are extremely popular in summer. Hiking, kayaking and sailing are all easily achievable within the city limits. Just as popular, are the many museums. The national Museum houses Edvard Munch’s famous painting The Scream and Viking Ship Museum containing long-lost relics from Norway’s Viking past.
From downtown Sentrum to the Oslo Airport Gardermoen to the stunning statues in Frogner Park, Booking.com has over 80 hotels and other accommodations available.

The return train ticket from the Airport to city is much cheaper from onsite ticket machines than booking in advance online with Flytoget, we didn't use buses or trams around the city but they are frequent and often. The Royal palace is a good walk with views overlooking the city centre and changing of the guard is at 1.30 pm. If you like statues then Oslo is the place for you with plenty of photo opportunities!! A pint cost us from £6.50 to £8.75 depending on vendor but wine is expensive, apparently alcohol can only be ordered across Norway from the government and not available from cash and carries, micro breweries or the like, although off sales from shops or supermarkets are allowed. A bit of duty free on the way through the airport is a good idea.

Oslo is a paradise for nature lovers!
Oslo is a paradise for nature lovers! The city is perfect for walking around, with stunning views of the sea and plenty of green spaces to explore. The Fram Museum is a must-visit, offering an exceptional experience that combines history and adventure. Although the short daylight hours in winter can be challenging for some, I found it fascinating to watch how the sun moves across the sky—it added a unique charm to the experience.
One thing to keep in mind is that food in Oslo is quite expensive: snacks and soups in bakeries are 50-100NOK, food portions in street food markets and pubs is around 200K while dining in a restaurant goes more than 500NOK and requires reservation wll in advance. Beers and glass of wine is around 100NOK.
P.S. I have not visited another Scandi city before

We were impressed with the level of support and helpfulness of pretty much everyone we met. Enhmglish was spoken by most which made it easy for us to get around.
Once oriented to key locations the city was very easy to navigate. Christmas was everywhere and really helped to build our experiences of a Whute Christmas. Best place to eat was the Oslo Street Food building near Sentrum Scene. The place was alive and a great variety of food options at traveller prices.

Very well planned city and easily walkable.
Very well planned city and easily walkable. The city centre is surprising not packed with cars which made it pretty safe for children. The trams and buses run on fixed frequency so it helps in travelling around the city.
The playground near Oslo Central Station is good in engaging younger kids while playground MUNCH is more suited for older children.

Very good location near public transportation and shops. Ample parking on private parking lot owned by Saga hotel/apartments. The studio was perfect for us a couple. It was cozy and the spatial layout was good. The kitchen had everything we needed like a can opener and enough tablewear and glasses. The appliances worked well. The apartment was very clean. Curtains blocked out the light enough to sleep in.
Atmospheric boutique hotel in vintage style. Great location close to the city center, restaurants and port. Room clean and small but sufficient for a few days stay. Comfortable beds - we slept very well. Very nice and friendly staff. Delicious, very diverse breakfasts so everyone find something her/him. BTW. Special thanks to woman from reception for her open and hospitality to Poles :)
The hotel is right in the city center, close to the train station. The room is small, but has everything you need. Everything looks cared for. There is free water. I especially liked the common areas for playing or the kitchenette with microwave, water heater etc. You can store your luggage when you arrive before checkin and also when you leave.
Great hotel in wonderful position not far from transport. Easy walking distance to city centre, main city attractions, railway station and harbour area. Very good breakfast. Very comfortable room and welcoming and helpful staff.
