Wonderful wonderful stay! From the moment you enter this beautiful place you enter another world to immerse yourself in a traditional Japanese setting. Leave your shoes at the door and slip on provided slippers. Escorted to your room and given your sized Yukata robe for wearing around the hotel and meals and Onsen. You absolutely must sign up for the half board meals. We were met at the floor 2 elevator stop by our personal waiter. He showed us to our private dining room and brought course after course of delightful foods (artfully presented and many delightful tastes). Some things we recognized but most we did not, but it as all good. We reserved a private Onsen each evening at 10pm that was the perfect ending of the day. We’re in our 70s so we opted for the traditional bedroom and the beds were comfortable and we slept well. We decided to walk to and from the Monkey park but could have taken the hotel shuttle. On our arrival and departed the hotel transported us from/to the train station. (Hint, the little coffee shop (Tea Salon Milano) directly across the major street from the little train station has excellent coffee and cheese cake). We can’t wait to go back to Wafu-no-Yado MASULA! We really hated to leave this wonderful place where we felt pampered by the staff.

Yumi and Akira were supremely nice, courteous, helpful, and as a bonus spoke English! They made our stay very easy by helping us with our bags, driving us to the monkey park, and making sure we had a ride to the station. Our hosts even took the time to learn our names and set us a postcard after our stay, so sweet!
Additionally, the onsen was piping hot, great for couples, and very relaxing. The room was enormous, had ac and a fridge, as well as large windows where you could hear the water traveling along the street.
If we lived in Tokyo we would come here regularly. It was very easy to travel to as well as afforable. Everyone should be staying here.

Clean, quiet building with beautiful, spacious bedrooms. The views are spectacular. The staff were attentive, kind, informative, and friendly. The dining experience was a real treat, consisting of multi-course meals in private dining rooms. We had a room with a private onsen that looked out over the mountains. The shared onsen was enjoyable too.

Gemütliche Unterkunft mit sehr freundlichem und hilfsbereitem Personal. Das Essen war aussergewöhnlich.
Lovely Ryokan, the room was very spacious and the tatami and futon super comfortable. We enjoyed the onsen and the private onsen too!
The owners are helpful, kind and friendly. Thanks for having us!
I highly recommend this ryokan. Dinner and breakfast was amazing. Onsen experience with family was great. We arrived by car and Akira managed to provide a parking spot for us. The rooms were spacious and futons were comfortable for us. Heating system works great during our mid winter stay. Toiletries and yukatas were provided.
While we were about to leave, he is assisting some guests to be dropped off at Snow Monkey Park which I think is great if you have no car.
Great location, in house restaurant for breakfast and dinner, traditional Japanese Ryokan. Despite being a tatami mat with futons, the bedding was extremely comfortable. Free bus pick up from train station as well as free bus drop off to Snow Monkey park. Staff were very helpful and provided lots of information about what to do and how to do it. Shared bathroom facilities were quite basic but OK. The bonus is the key to the public onsens, all 9 of them.
The staff were superbly friendly while retaining the unique traditional ryokan atmosphere.
The onsens were beautiful and entirely peaceful.
Both the guest rooms and the dining rooms were beautiful tatami rooms that when paired with the yukatas really made you feel the atmosphere at its most.
The shuttle bus service to the snow monkey park and train station was also incredibly helpful!
Loved the traditional Ryokan. Cosy rooms with comfy futon style beds. We had a room at the front with an indoor balcony that overlooked the street. Had breakfast and dinner at the restaurant, which was great. Staff were really friendly, helpful and spoke English. They supplied Yukata and geta to wear out to the onsen - the closest was only 50 meters up the road.
the first floor offers private hot spring, many lounge activities, and kitchen with free coffee. the tatami room was spacious and futons are very comfortable. it is located in between Shibu and Yudanaka onsen, which are the two main onsens in the area.
The owners were very lovely and did their best to accommodate us, picked us up from the station. It was a very nice experience to stay in traditional japanese ryokan, room was like from another era, had a tea set and futons, but there were also ac, humidifier and fridge. We used an onsen, had yukatas, it was all very comfortable
traditional Japanse ryokan including onsen and sleeping on tatami floors and futon beds. staff is warm welcoming and willing to go the extra mile for you (gives a ride to entrance monkey park, source of great info)
Lovely hotel. Room is very big with an amazing view of the city and mountains. The room has a traditional ryokan look with tatami floors and futon, the bathroom has a nice little bathub. The onsen is nice and clean.
The staff, even though they couldn't speak english, made the effort to communicate with translator, and were very friendly and helpful, and in the end even gave me a lovely gift.
Beautiful old ryokan with super friendly and helpful team; quality service (the pickup from the train station, the drive to the monkey park); delicious food and superb cappuccino. Really enjoyed the traditional rooms (sleeping on futons) and the relaxed atmosphere in the ryokan. And not to forget: access to the 9 onsen baths as a guest of the ryokan. Try them all, walking towards them in traditional Japanese yukata and gets. Enjoyed every second of being here!
