Even before we arrived, communication was so helpful. Our room was beautiful and spacious. We were attended to perfectly throughout our stay by Hoshino who spoke excellent English, was so well-organized and absolutely charming. He even accompanied us back to the train station to be sure we got our departure tickets.

The staff was very kind and did their best to accommodate the fact that I had broken my foot two weeks before coming. I also greatly appreciate that they contacted me a few days before to check the last details and that they picked me up at the train station.

We liked the convenience of the elevators and large room size. The indoor and outdoor baths were very nice and we really enjoyed all of the options for hair and body washes, masks, and special creams. We especially liked the big outdoor bath with waterfall and wisteria vines: so glad we went to the baths several times as they change gender at cleaning time.

I loved the quiet mountain location. The meals were buffet-style and quite enjoyable. I loved the open-air onsen and didn't even try the public bath inside of the hotel. The staff was very friendly, and I could get by with no Japanese.

We really enjoyed our stay and found the onsens to be relaxing and just the right temperature. The Japanese style room was very comfortable and spacious. The food, especially the dinners, were delicious and beautifully and thoughtfully prepared. The staff kindly arranged pick up and dropoff from the Togura station to the hotel, and were very flexible with the timing. Overall, every small detail was thought about - they even provided some delicious cold milk and ice lollies after the onsen visits. Every interaction we had with staff members was positive, and we really appreciated how welcoming, cheerful, helpful, and kind everyone was. The staff also kindly arranged for vegetarian meals to be prepared for my sister. We could not manage to get the heater to work during our second night, but the staff immediately addressed the issue and provided an external heater. Overall we had a lovely stay and really appreciated the staff members!

Experience culture authentically with a stay at these traditional Japanese-style accommodations. Sleep on the floor (on a futon roll) in a room furnished with tatami flooring and sliding doors. Guests can often expect access to a communal bath, plus a complimentary Japanese garment called a yukata.
Absolutely my standout stay in Japan, a place I have both lived and travelled to more than a dozen times.
Besho Onsen Midoriya is a beautiful modern Ryokan with private hot spring baths set in the most tranquil of settings. I particularly loved the Kaiseki set course dinner and of course the provided breakfasts.
I will be back!
Incredible nice welcome and checkin procedure. Everything is freshly renovated and brand new. Drinks for free and private Onsen is amazing, so beautiful with the outside pool and view to the forest. Room was big and had everything. The owner acconpanied us to a local Izakaya close by and we had an amazing dinner in tyoical japanese atmosphere cloe to hotel. Village is super cozy.
The staff was very attentive, the person from the reception desk overheard us talking that kids need water and brought it even without asking. The ryokan has a 150 years history and you can feel it. Beautiful view from the women's rotemburo, I recommend going at dawn. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic.
Creative and interesting Japanese cuisine for the evening meal. Really helpful and friendly staff.
Short walk to the amazing temples and shrines of Bessho Onsen.
Host was ready to welcome us when we arrived. He was very nice and recommended us to a great restaurant in the town as well as informed us about onsen opening hours and more. We were also offered tea, some local sweets, and a cup of coffee in the morning.
The accommodation was clean and comfy, with kotatsu in the room. You can also enjoy sleeping in futon on traditional tatami floor.
Overall great accommodation, highly recommended.
Bessho Onsen is a magic place just outside Ueda, full of lovely temples and hot springs. This Ryokan fully embraces the vibe of this little village and offers good facilities in an amazing surroundings. The hotel is pretty old, which gives it a nostalgic feeling. But it is perfectly kept and with all the amenities you should wish for. A lovely room, amazing gardens, very good indoor and outdoor hot springs and a very very good restaurant. We had the best breakfast of our entire trip there! Last but not least the staff is absolutely lovely.
