Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Kakeyu, hotel in Ueda

We liked the convenience of the elevators and large room size. The indoor and outdoor baths were very nice and we really enjoyed all of the options for hair and body washes, masks, and special creams. We especially liked the big outdoor bath with waterfall and wisteria vines: so glad we went to the baths several times as they change gender at cleaning time.

Kamesei Ryokan, hotel in Ueda

Featuring a Japanese garden and fish pond, Kamesei Ryokan offers Japanese-style accommodations, traditional dining and natural hot spring baths, both outdoors and indoors.

Tyler was a great host! At check in he sat down with us and told us about the history of the area and places to explore/things to do. He was highly communicative and checked in with us throughout our stay. The meals at the ryokan were really lovely and a very fun experience. Tyler also taught us how to wear our yukatas correctly and drove us to the train station upon departure! We really enjoyed the family onsen, which is a private onsen on the property that you can reserve! The beds were comfy and the room was nice and sizeable. Overall we would highly recommend staying here! It was a very nice and relaxing time.

Ogiwarakan, hotel in Ueda

Located in the famous Togura Kamiyamada hot-spring district, Ogiwarakan features Japanese-style rooms with a flat-screen satellite TV and a fridge.

Very good hotel with excellent staff and good facilities. The family room was spacious, a luxury in Japan, and very clean. The onsen within the hotel was very good, particularly the outdoor onsen located on the last floor of the building, with views to the mountains. We chose the package including dinner and it was very much worth it, with a very large private room just for us.

Absolutely my standout stay in Japan, a place I have both lived and travelled to more than a dozen times. Besho Onsen Midoriya is a beautiful modern Ryokan with private hot spring baths set in the most tranquil of settings. I particularly loved the Kaiseki set course dinner and of course the provided breakfasts. I will be back!

The staff was very attentive, the person from the reception desk overheard us talking that kids need water and brought it even without asking. The ryokan has a 150 years history and you can feel it. Beautiful view from the women's rotemburo, I recommend going at dawn. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic.

Host was ready to welcome us when we arrived. He was very nice and recommended us to a great restaurant in the town as well as informed us about onsen opening hours and more. We were also offered tea, some local sweets, and a cup of coffee in the morning. The accommodation was clean and comfy, with kotatsu in the room. You can also enjoy sleeping in futon on traditional tatami floor. Overall great accommodation, highly recommended.

Bessho Onsen is a magic place just outside Ueda, full of lovely temples and hot springs. This Ryokan fully embraces the vibe of this little village and offers good facilities in an amazing surroundings. The hotel is pretty old, which gives it a nostalgic feeling. But it is perfectly kept and with all the amenities you should wish for. A lovely room, amazing gardens, very good indoor and outdoor hot springs and a very very good restaurant. We had the best breakfast of our entire trip there! Last but not least the staff is absolutely lovely.
