The room was traditional and surprisingly large. The location very near to the train station was great and the food was lovely. We were served a wonderful steamed fish dish for dinner along with a delicious sake tasting. The host really made us feel welcome. Tsuwano is a real gem, and I would totally recommend Hoshi Ryokan.

Authentic old building, great decorations with old movie posters and lanterns. Room was large with lovely tatami and screens. Shared bathrooms were plentiful and clean. Friendly hostess. Good breakfast and dinner. Good value. Very close to the train station. Great cultural experience with traditional musical instrument lesson and calligraphy gift. Loved the town of Tsuwano.

This is a family owned ryokan and the hosts lady was super nice. She met us at a train station since she knew our train arrival time. That was a nice surprise. The ryokan itself is quite close to the station a couple of minutes walk away from the main town street. Tsuwano is a nice little town and you could easily spend a half or full day there. We had a half board arrangement and it was a blast - full set Japanese dinner with a sake tasting and equally complete Japanese breakfast. Tremendous value and reception! Highly recommend!

The hotel produced a wonderful vegetarian menu for one of our party for the three day stay. Food for the 3 non-vegetarians was also exceptional with extensive 8-course menus. The onsen bath on the top floor was very relaxing. The hotel room was well appointed and very tasteful. Staff were very attentive and helpful to foreigners as well as Japanese guests.

Perfect! The staff made the stay extra special - they were so kind and welcoming despite our lack of Japanese. The food was consistently exceptional, everything so tasty and beautifully presented. We especially enjoyed getting dressed up in yukata for dinner.

Very, very, very beautiful ryokan. The owner already greeted us at the entrance and was extremely friendly. The room was also beautiful and made you feel like living in Edo period Japan. The onsen was very relaxing, and after it, my partner was offered to wear a nice yukata for dinner. The food was extraordinary (although it could mostly not be adjusted for my admittedly picky partner, see below), both in terms of taste and in the way it was presented. I would definitely recommend this ryokan anytime to any traveller.

There is nice lounge where you can enjoy the free tea and coffee also can see the carp pond in front. Also there is Onsen hot spring outside bath. The food is also well prepared even we ordered Casual Kaiseki(small portion) but was great enough. Staff is very friendly. Especially the guy who tried to find somewhere to eat near. He tried to call couple of restaurants around even many of them were fully booked.
