Tamonkan, hotel in Tsuruoka

Surrounded by sacred mountains and untouched nature, Tamonkan is housed in a historic Japanese-style building. Complimentary tea and snacks are served to welcome guests.

Toki-san and staff were most attentive to our needs. When we encountered difficulties during our mountain trek/pilgrimage, Toki-san assisted in many ways. He is a true gem.

Kameya Hotel, hotel in Tsuruoka

A recently renovated ryokan, Kameya Hotel offers accommodation in Tsuruoka. The ryokan features a spa experience, with its hot spring bath, public bath, and open-air bath.

I had an excellent view of the Japan Sea. My room was big and spacious and felt unique with traditional tatami and wooden floors. The private onsen with sauna and dry room was wonderful! I regret not using it both nights. The staff was helpful and friendly. I enjoyed their self serve coffee/beverage station with tables overlooking their beautiful Japanese garden on the terrace. They also offer cute little treats to eat with your drink which I thought was so lovely.

Tsukasaya Ryokan, hotel in Tsuruoka

Tsukaya Ryokan is a accommodations with a history of over 300 years. All rooms feature tatami (woven-straw) floors.

Of all the hotels and ryokans I stayed at during my two weeks traveling Japan, the night at Tsukasaya Ryokan was by far my favorite. Mrs. Shoji personally came out and greeted me at my taxi. From that moment onward, I felt as if I was receiving an experience personalized just for me. After showing me to my room, Mrs. Shoji informed me of several local attractions (parks, shrines, temples, etc.) that were lovely to visit prior to returning for dinner. Every moment of the stay felt thoughtfully crafted and authentic. The food was delicious, containing many dishes that I had never before experienced. The onsen, while small and enclosed, was at just the right temperature and left my skin feeling the best it has in years. The design of the structure was charming and authentic (as best that a foreigner like myself can judge). The staff were friendly and accommodating.

Everything was perfect, a beautiful ryokan on a great spot. Close to the stairway to mount Haguro. A beautiful walk. The host and his wife are very friendly people. And she cooks like a masterchef so book the breakfast and dinner! You have too because no other restaurants, no convientstores. We travelled by public transport. Well organized.

The owners are extremely lovely and accomodating. The food was superb and the building is magical. The small onsen tub was perfect for winding down after a hike up Mt Haguro.

Have been to numerous onsen stay in Japan, this one ranks one of the best if not the best. The set dinner is overwhelming, the service is the best I have encountered in all my stay; After we have checked out of the hotel & as we were early for the public bus, we waited at hotel open area. The staff came to confirm our bus timing & specially made some traditional Japanese tea & served it with candies too. The thoughtful service really made our day. Thank you.

The private onsen in the room is amazing! The window can be fully opened and we enjoy the mountain view and fresh air so much. Tachibahana location is great too. We can take a pleasant walk along the Atsui river and experience the mountain village life.

We stayed at the room with toilet and bath. The room is new and clean. The shared bathrooms on the first floor are small but also very clean. The onsen water is not too cold or too warm. The breakfast is also very enjoyable. The ryokan owners are kind. This is a nice experience.

We have a great time at this onsen hotel. All good especially staff!! The dinner was served beautifully and delicious with gorgeous sunset view. Our room was a corner and top floor with 2 tatami rooms and living room. We could totally relax and we are sad to leave. We walked around this small town and talk to some local people who are extremely kind and helpful. We definitely will go back there some day.
