Kyukamura Ohkunoshima, hotel in Takehara

Offering a garden and garden view, Kyukamura Ohkunoshima is set in Takehara, 700 metres from Okunoshima Island and less than 1 km from Okunoshima Island.

Although it was the only stay on the island, Kyukamura did not try to take advantage of that fact. It was a very pleasant resort offering 24//7 access to the site, and of course this meant enjoying the company of the rabbits any time you'd like. The room was basic ryokan but clean and fully equipped. As I only managed to check in late, the ferry was informed to look out for me, and the check-in staff told me to go eat dinner (less than an hour left) before finishing the procedures. The food ingredients are really good and fresh. A leisurely check out also meant that guests were expected to hang around as long as they liked, and I took advantage of the onsen bath after traipsing all over the island to remove the cold.

The only Ryokan on Rabbit Island. The hotel is a little aged but otherwise clean and functional. Stay typically includes breakfast and dinner, which are buffet style and quite nice. My room came with a toilet but no shower, instead guests can make use of the two onsen in the building. Which is a nice experience. Staying on the island offers the unique opportunity to enjoy the rabbits during their most active times, which is early morning and evening.

Very good hotel! the room was super well-equiped, the buffet was very diverse and had several things I had never tried before, including some local dishes. The onsen was also very nice. Staff was very helpful and they have detailed information on the schedule of buses and ferries, which is needed.

Staff were incredibly friendly, dinner and breakfast were delicious and had a wide variety of foods, obviously location is exccellent! Staff did a science talk the evening we stayed. Our room was lovely and we appreciated the futon set up as well. Cute gift shop, and the island itself is highly walkable.

A nice thing is the Onsen in the hotel and that the rooms are in Japanese style with futons and tatami. The location is really convenient to get around the island and back to the mainland.
