We liked everything! One of the best decisions we made to stay overnight at the Ryokan Onomichi Nishiyama. The staff was fantastic and went out of their way to make sure our stay was perfect. We were also pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the dinner and breakfast which were included with our booking.

Always a pleasure staying at Suminoe Ryokan. It is the second time we have stayed there. It is ideally located just short of halfway across the Shimanami Kaido cycleway. Pleasant helpful staff, comfortable traditional Japanese room.
Great to soak in the onsen after cycling.
Delicious seafood dinner and a healthy breakfast. Lovely to watch the sun set over the inland sea from your room.

We very much enjoyed this Ryokan. They offered a shuttle from the train station, which is helpful as they are in Tomonoura . Easier than taking the bus if you are travelling by train! As soon as we arrived the helpfulness and professionalism of the staff was evident. This impressed us through out our stay. The door staff, the front desk staff and the dining staff - all exemplary. Our room was lovely with interesting wall finishings and a view over the water. The public areas were also attractive. Our meals were also overlooking the water and just delicious. We found having these wonderful traditional meals to be a highlight of our trip to Japan. While weather did not fully cooperate during our stay we still had a lovely hike on the adjacent island easily accessible by a short boat ride ( which runs continuously throughout the day). They also had a nice onsen with outdoor area.

The best parts about our stay are: 1. Guests at this hotel can use the public bath at its sister hotels (i.e., much more high-end hotels such as Hotel Ofutei), which was blast for us! It is likely these hotels have the same owner; 2. The service of the staff members is top notch - they helped us with our big suitcases to and from the shuttle bus location, which was a big deal; they also gave great recommendations for restaurants and helped us make reservations; 3. The breakfasts were top notch. However, if we could not use the public baths at Hotel Ofutei, then I would not recommend this hotel for the price they charge. Being able to do 1 makes it worthwhile.

Staying at this hotel is the highlight of our honeymoon. We visited in early December- the weather was beautifully mild, and the island wasn't crowded (except for the rabbits!). I have food allergies, and the staff took the time to walk me through the restaurant and explain what is safe for me to eat, and what wasn't. There was a language barrier, but using a translation app made the exchange very easy.
We took a lovely hike to the lookout point in the morning, and we're greeted by rabbits on the trail. It was fun to be surprised by them appearing!
As Westeners, we booked a Japanese-style room for the experience and it was lovely. We opted to have the tatami mats laid for us, and they were ready by the time we got back from dinner. Seeing the rabbits frolic from our balcony was so enjoyable. I love that every room is ocean view. We cannot wait to return in a few years!
Experience culture authentically with a stay at these traditional Japanese-style accommodations. Sleep on the floor (on a futon roll) in a room furnished with tatami flooring and sliding doors. Guests can often expect access to a communal bath, plus a complimentary Japanese garment called a yukata.
The view from the room was incredible. A traditional tatami room with futon beds. The cafe dowstairs had a really authentic vibes and we ate some delicious deserts. It is located on a steep hill, but the trip is totally worth it for the view. Really close to the temple.
Historical ryokan-style accomodation with great views across the Port and Mukaishima Island. Large, private rooms with comfortable futons. Opportunities to meet other travellers.
Beautiful Ryokan in an old traditional building with a, lovely garden, right next to the sea. I enjoyed my stay right from the start with the warm welcome at check-in (owner could speak some English - thank you). The room was like the photos promised, a cosy futon waiting for me (there was also a tasty lemon treat in the fridge). Although small, the bath was nice and I could relax after a day of cycling. Breakfast was also delicious. Next time, I'll book dinner as well.
Beautiful traditional Japanese inn with onsen n fabulous sea view.
Location is good. The courtyard n garden r amazing.
Staff are all very friendly n helpful.
Room is spacious.
Breakfast n dinner r included in our room. Both r very delicious n huge.
Amazing old japanese house. The rooms are traditional with tatami mats, futong beds and sliding doors. Visting this place is a true experience in traditional Japanese culture. The location is also beautiful on top of a hill with the most beautiful over Onomichi. It's also very close to the station, restaurants and the starting point of the biking trail.
Really lovely, ryokan in a perfect location for us. We rode the Shimanami Kaido as a family and it was very close to the route. We had a spacious family room with sea view and our own toilet and wash basin. The hot spa (onsen) was wonderful for soaking our tired bodies. The staff were so lovely, especially when we arrived soaking wet after riding in the rain. We ate at the restaurant next door which was great. Would recommend it!
We stayed one night during a 2-day trip to bike the Shimanami Kaido. The location was great; beautiful neighborhood of Setoda, close to the port. Close to Kosanji temple and shops & restaurants. The room was really comfortable and roomy for relaxing after a bike ride. Loved the tatami sitting area. The onsen is open for hotel guests after it closes to the public.
excellent location right on the water. we stayed during a multi day cycling trip. could park bikes out the front securely. shops including a bottle shop and a few restaurants nearby. we had dinner and breakfast at the ryokan. very fancy formal dinner in private room. onsen was excellent. staff very polite, friendly and helpful :)
amazing location. friendly staff. love the tatami/futon sleeping with a beautiful view of the water. shared bathroom very clean. cute shared eating/outdoor area beautiful in the morning sun. would definitely stay again.
Very friendly and chill place, great value. The host recommended a great restaurant and showed us how to find the local onsen. Our room was large and had a comfy couch as well as the futon sleeping mats.
