The owners are super nice and made a big effort to communicate with us despite not speaking the same language. The location is wonderful and my kids enjoyed the Ryokan experience.

Together with the 5am Zenkoji temple visit this is a meaningful and unique experience. The lodging is a small, Intimate ryokan-style room. There is a nice indoor onsen. The staff were welcoming and friendly and the vegetarian food was delicious . The temple visit at dawn with an excellent English -speaking guide was a major highlight of Japan for us, as well as an insight into Buddhist belief and practice. Yet alongside a tradition of a thousand years of pilgrimages to the Zenkoji temple next door the lodging also had fast modern wifi!

We stayed at this ryoken for two nights while on our honeymoon and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The rooms were clean, the futons were soft, and the sleepwear they provided was very comfortable. Our room had heat and air conditioning that we could control. The toilets are communal, but they were conveniently located across the hall from our room. The onsens were lovely and the people who worked there were very kind and attentive. Breakfast was very good as well!
I personally found this ryoken to be incredibly westerner friendly. We stayed at one other Ryoken (in Kyoto) on our Japan trip, which was very fancy and supposed to be the best of the best. I liked Yamamanokami Onsen much more since staff was less intrusive and we felt like we had more freedom. For example, we didn't have to report in early for dinner every night and we were free to keep our futons out instead of having people in and out of our room while trying to relax.
The ryoken is about a 15 minute walk to shops in town. We enjoyed the walk and preferred the more remote location, since it was very relaxing and the area looked more traditional.
Overall, we have no complaints!

Host were very hospitable, gave us some local grown fruit! The breakfast and dinner were both very delicious. Best ryokan I have visited yet!
Experience culture authentically with a stay at these traditional Japanese-style accommodations. Sleep on the floor (on a futon roll) in a room furnished with tatami flooring and sliding doors. Guests can often expect access to a communal bath, plus a complimentary Japanese garment called a yukata.

Great location, next to Zenko-ji Temple. Traditional breakfast is very nice. The owner is very kind, the staffs are friendly and helpful. Ryokan experiences (sleep on Japanese mat - tatami). Free onsen.
Great traditional ryokan that I can recommend to anyone! Nice staff, really good japanese style breakfast, beautiful rooms and so much more. I used the ryokan’s onsen every morning and night. Also great location as Zenkōji temple is located right next to the ryokan. 5/5 stars!
Huge, traditional room, with tatami mats, dinning space and private bathroom. Great onsen we had to ourselves.
Traditional Japanese breakfast was big and very tasty.
Hotel is located in the middle of nowhere, but for us it was a plus.
Authentic Japanese breakfast served at an agreed upon dining time. Onsens were authentic as were the futons on tatami mats. Great location to the main temple. Recommend this ryokan for a true taste of old Japan.
We loved our stay here. It was great for the family to experience a traditional Ryokan. The breakfast was very good if you want to have a traditional breakfast. It was a great location being right in the middle of Zenkoji Omotesando. Would definitely recommend.
Very helpful and friendly staff. Amazing breakfast. The onsen is wonderful and the futon s and blankets are super confortable. Had a good Japanese style feel staying here - they provide Yukatas in the rooms.
The Older Couple …Owners Of This Ryokan were Aware Of Visitors Well Beeing in any aspect …
The Public Bath for Men…Onsen…Were so Lovely…..Always convenient before Bedtime ..
The Hosts even cleaned my Room during my stay…
Yukata..Japanese Style Pyjamas were so Good….
A small but comfortable ryokan sitting on an ancient site on a beautiful pedestrian thoroughfare just fifty yards form the large Zenko-Ji Temple complex, easily accessible from the rail station by either bus or subway. Rooms compact but brilliantly designed - no shoes throughout with every necessary comfort and a really good traditional breakfast. Use the small but well-equipped onsen. Good eateries located nearby but do book.
It is a ryokan, Japanese style hotel, just in the street a few hundred meters away from the Zenko-ji (temple). The house is very old. The room looks beautyful, beds, (futons), Japanese chairs and table. The breakfasts and dinners were traditional Japanese. Lovely taste and made with care. There was an onsen, Japanes hot spring bath in the house. The staff was so friendly. They came up to our room to collect us for the meals. We have breakfast and dinner in a original Japanese (dining)room.
Great Ryokan experience (my first time), right in the historic temple walk. Even though several rooms were being remodelled, my room was in perfect condition and comfortable. Good onsen. I enjoyed trying on the yukata, but be aware even Japanese visitors don't always put it on! I was a little embarrassed at breakfast :D
