This is an historic Ryokan, refurbished several times over the years.
All the expected services, wonderful staff.
Our room had a fantastic view up and down the river. In the morning near dawn we could watch the shinjiko clam boats heading for the lake.
The dinners were unexcelled, not standard Kaiseki, but multi-course with refreshingly new tastes.
We found this an excellent place to stay and visit both Izumo Tasha and Miho Jinja.

It was amazing with tatami mats in the hotel and not only in rooms. It felt good walking on them in the lobby and everywhere else.
We liked very much onsen as well. I was there every evening during our stay.
Clean hotel with traditional feel to it (tatami mats, samues). Very friendly staff (bit tricky with English but they had some translation app on little handheld devices). Lovely large onsen on the rooftop with views over matsue and lake shinji. Lovely large breakfast buffet. Absolutely loved the free massage chairs.
This hotel is just stunning. Japanese-style, with tatami floors and a great onsen, sublime breakfast, perfect amenities and extras such as manga library, it is worth a visit in itself.
Really enjoyed how every where in the hotel was tatami floored. It was so nice not to wear shoes around for a change. The spa was amazing, and I enjoyed the free ice cream and the massage chairs after the onsen too.
Great location just opposite the station. Convenience store just next to the hotel as well. Staffs are very very helpful and friendly. My friend left her scarf at an Onsen Ryokan in Tamatsukuri Onsen and a staff called them for us to check if they found a scarf. When we asked a nice cafe near the hotel, she copied a map and circled the cafe on the map and gave the map to me. The staffs went the extra miles to help us. Big bath is also very nice although it's an artificial Onsen.
A very great Japanese experience with Tatami mats throughout the hotel. The rooms are small but functional and the onsen is great. It's a short walk to the Castle which is a must see in Matsue. The breakfast was a highlight. Such an incredible selection and quality of food was outstanding. in keeping with the hotel, it is very traditional Japanese fair so do not expect Western options.
Great location in Matsue. Moder building with a classic Japanese style, everything is Tatami mats from the entrance to your room. Multiple elevators for quick access to any floor. Free amenities (toothbrush etc.), free snacks and manga to read in the hot springs. Large, multiple spring baths with different temperature. Large lounge on the first floor. Rooms are large and well furnished with a table, and a coffee table with a small sofa.
Very tasteful Japanese-style outdoor and indoor
Complimentary water bottles and juice in the room, beverage service in lobby at some hours, and ice cream at onsen.
Ryokan style service: first cleaning of the wheels of suitcase, putting of shoes and walking through entire interior of hotel in socks on tatami floor.
Very nice onsen (in and outdoor) with massage chairs.
Beautiful tatami mat style room with modern touch, bigger bathroom than usual.
Rooms are big with wide tatami area. Very nice view to the lake and by paying 500 JPY you can use the sister hotel (Chorakuen Ryokan & Onsen), which has one of the biggest outside onsen in Japan. There is even a free shuttle bus (once per hour).
