The room was very traditional which is why I booked there. The dinner was yummy and as I am celiac I was catered for very well and again at breakfast the following day. The guy who bought us dinner and also prepared the room for sleeping was lovely, his english was good and he was extremely helpful with our requests. The bus service to and from the hotel to the dock area was great and very efficient. The view from our window across the bay was very peaceful. The deer that wandered around the hotel were a treat.

Extremely polite helpful staff. The view from the room was fantastic overlooking the shrine. The beds are very comfortable and the private onsen was lovely.

A traditional ryokan that offers cultural experience through its decor, cuisine, and hospitality. The room is spacious and immaculate. The room was laid with tatami mats. The staff will come to the room to prepare the futon for the night. Pillow selection is available on every level. Complimentary drinks(alcoholic and non-alcoholic), snacks, and ice cream are available in the lounge area. This ryokan is near to many tourist attractions(i.e., ferry terminal, Otorii Gate, Itsukushima Jinja, main shopping street, etc). The big bath(onsen) was one of my favourite, I've a wonderful rest after soaking. Last but not least, the staff are so pleasant and friendly.

The hostess was so attentive and caring from the minute we arrived. She put so much effort into making sure that we had a perfect (and very traditional) Japanese stay. It was my first experience sleeping on a futon bed with a tatami mat floor. A very nice change from a western hotel. No shoes inside the room! The multi-course set menu meal was nothing short of extraordinary. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
This is not a 5 star city hotel! If you want that, go to Tokyo…
厳島いろは is located in Miyajima’s Omotesando Avenue, a 5-minute walk from Itsukushima Shinto Shrine and Miyajima Pier.

We arrived on the island early and dropped our bags at reception. We were met by Yuriko, who was extremely helpful and gave us so much information on what to do and where to eat.
We came back to check in, and as well as Yuriko, we also met Haruka. Check-in usually takes 5 minutes, and ours took around 30 minutes as my son started making origami with reception. It was such a wholesome experience. We loved it.
Yuriko showed us to our room which we were surprised by an upgrade to ocean view. Sugoi is all we could say. Beautiful room, amazing view.
I loved the rooftop Onsen, my son loved the big bath in the room. Breakfast was good, i love that you get full size juice or water. We really wanted to stay another night but we travelled to another town.
Experience culture authentically with a stay at this traditional Japanese-style accommodation. Sleep on the floor (on a futon roll) in a room furnished with tatami flooring and sliding doors. Guests can often expect access to a communal bath plus a complimentary Japanese garment called a yukata.
The hosts were amazing! Good English and they were patient with my attempts at Japanese as well.
The rooms are in a separate building within a walking distance, but uphill. It was ok for me, but people with walking difficulties might not be able to make it.
The bathroom in the separate building exceeded expectations. Cheap laundry options. The bathtub was large enough for a tall European to fit in completely.
The view from up the hill was amazing.
There's an onsen on the south part of the island that you can visit via bus.
The inn was an old traditional Japanese building. It was a unique space and a good experience. Some rooms have tatami mats.
It was interesting to see large boats coming and going on the sea in front of us.
Near the inn, there is a walking trail and an old town. It is a maze of narrow streets where people still live and greet the elderly people they meet. When you reach the top of the hill, you can see a wide view and even the city of Hiroshima.
Nearby is an old sake brewery where we were able to sample various flavors of sake.
This us an authentic Japanese experience. Only hearty guests should book as there is a steep climb up a hill to the guest rooms. The small onsen in the downstairs area was exceptional. Kaito was charming and informative and cooked a delicious dinner. Ecu and Katzoo were very helpful guiding us from the bus stop and bringing our belongings to our room. We are much appreciative of the kind hospitality and genuine warmth we were shown. Once we learned the route we were able to easily take the bus from Kure to the correct Takesu stop.
