The staff were brilliant and very friendly despite a language barrier with some, shuttling me to and from the station and helping me book a dinner reservation separate from my room booking. The room was as described but that's not a negative, it was a great experience with the footbath and private onsen. Recommend the dinner highly for a local kaiseki offering in a private room.

Getting to the Ryokan was straight forward. Taxis were mostly Toyota Yaris’ which made fitting two large suitcases impossible. A lovely local organised a larger taxi for us.
Upon arriving, the staff were very hospitable and went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable. They tried their absolute best to communicate with two native English speakers. Dinner was amazing, offering a wide variety of fresh food. Breakfast was equally amazing. The room was clean and very well presented. The private onsen was the highlight for sure!
Overall, this was a very memorable experience and I would highly recommend it.

The staff was really helpful. They did their best to help me with anything I needed even with the language barrier. I thought the bath was really nice and the room was relaxing.
Experience culture authentically with a stay at this traditional Japanese-style accommodation. Sleep on the floor (on a futon roll) in a room furnished with tatami flooring and sliding doors. Guests can often expect access to a communal bath plus a complimentary Japanese garment called a yukata.

The food was incredible and the portions are huge, so bigger eaters can be assured that you won't go hungry. The staff are super sweet and not overbearing. The onsen is also perfect and well maintained, love the basket of onsen items that is given to us in our rooms. The property is very quiet and peaceful, it is great for a retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Nice ryokan and Onsen in the room I definitely the highlight. No room service but have a nice lounge with free coffee tea water etc and can work or read a book. Place is in great condition considering how old it is. The public bath is ok nothing special and food is pretty good but again nothing special. Overall we had a nice stay but the place is starting to show its age.
The service was outstanding, this was our first time at a Ryokan and the staff couldn't have been any more helpful. We had to get a little help with the yukata but again the staff were so helpful and patient. Worth the price 100%
Magnificent stay in this charming ryokan. From the irori and lit torches greeting us at the entrance, to the sumptuous kaiseki meal and lovely onsen, everything was perfectly traditional and inspiring.
Our stay at Saikatei Jidaiya was an amazing experience. The staff was incredibly helpful and hospitable, we have never seen something quite like this before. We stayed in a room with a private onsen which was squeaky clean and featured a mini garden, that made our stay perfect.
If you are looking for a great ryokan experience, this is the place to go.
Charming ryokan. The staff were always smiling and ready to help. our room has in room onsen and bath so it was convenient. Breakfast and dinner consisting mostly of local produce were exquisite.
Definitely our best stay during our trip to Japan. Everything about this place is just exceptional. The room, the food, the onsen, the service, everything was amazing. We had a really memorable stay and felt very sad when we had to leave :( Our favorite part was when the staff explained all the food in front of us during breakfast and dinner, like storytelling.
If you're looking for an ultimate ryokan experience, then this is it.
We will be back for sure.
Our first Ryokan experience and it didn't disappoint. We love our room and the private onsen inside! And the view from our room was breathtaking. We also enjoyed our breakfast and dinner. The staff doesn't speak much English but they tried very hard to help and accommodate our needs, we really appreciate that.
Meals - Go for the breakfast and dinner (full board) as the meals are excellent and portion is just out of this world.
Public Onsen (Hot Spring Bath) - They have both indoor and outdoor section so it was great.
Staffing - Everyone was uber friendly and helpful.
