Everything was fantastic, and best was the riverside onsen! Rooms were big and very well furnished and clean. Meals were in individual dining rooms. Service top notch and they had English speaking staff! The normal onsens were clean and easy to book too. Comfortable lobby. Food had good variety and was tasty,

Absolutely beautiful location, incredibly helpful staff, and very friendly. I didn't know fluent Japanese like I should have when visiting, but the people were exceptionally understanding.
Would recommend again and again.
Will return next year definitely, and will know the language better to return the favor properly.
Thank you very much.

One of our favourite locations for Japan. The staff are very friendly and the room was great. We tried Onsen at the hotel for the first time and loved it. The views from our room were beautiful.

Hamanoyu feels like an old grand dame from another era. The staff do their best to keep up the quality and they do a good job. My room was small and cute. The sauna and hot spring facilities were well-maintained and felt comfortable and relaxing. I only got breakfast, but it was more than adequate. I feel that not enough. People are visiting that part of Nagano these days, and that tourism is suffering, which is ironic because much of the rest of Japan appears to be booming. I hope, I can do my small part to help get the word out.

This was a wonderful traditional ryokan with a lot of interesting history that is on the Nakasendo. Convenient location on the way to the Kiso valley from the Mt. Fuji area. Beautiful garden view from our room. Both the dinner and breakfast were delicious with a wide variety of dishes. Would definitely stay here again!
Experience culture authentically with a stay at these traditional Japanese-style accommodations. Sleep on the floor (on a futon roll) in a room furnished with tatami flooring and sliding doors. Guests can often expect access to a communal bath, plus a complimentary Japanese garment called a yukata.
Very nice house with great facilities. We especially like the onsen that you can book for private time.
Location is great if you are visiting Lake Shirakaba. It's probably the best around the area.
One word: perfect. The atmosphere of the hotel felt really authentic, the food was super good and the staff explained everything. They were also very kind and helpful for any matter. There is the possibility to book a private onsen and the onsen itself is amazing and can only benefits your health. In conclusion, we will definitely come back.
This was our first traditional Japanese tatami mats stay and it was comfortable beyond our expectations. There are plenty of small conveniences spread out in the room such as Japanese folding chairs, kettle, TV and more. We had a good rest and a good sleep.
Beautiful hotel with old world feel in lounge library and lobby, lovely lux rooms, great indoor and outside onsens, luxurious ladies bedrock sauna, delicious dining experience in private dining rooms, very pretty in snowy valley with sounds of the river. Hotel provided shuttle from station and to Pilatus Tateshina Ski Resort.
the food was delicous and the baths were really good. Because they had to cover the windows for repairing work outside so we got a 50% discount for the private onsen (due to none of sightseeing but it was ok) and the kids loved that private bathroom.
The open-air onsen was really good, great views. Also, the hotel staff, with 1 gentleman in particular, was very helpful with helping us book a taxi to a slightly remote location the next day. The view from our room, on the basement level, was great. It overlooked the river/waterfall.
