To us this was an outstanding experience: we had a spacious room facing a beautiful garden which was visited by chipmunks and various bird species as well as a swimming lake (including sun set view). For the lake, the resort offered free to use SUPs, canoes, kajacs etc. and safety gear. After hikes into the close by Algonquin national park, the resort and lake was the perfect cool down location. The owners were extremely forthcoming, even though they suffered from lack of service staff - consequently we only once could use their breakfast offers. However, in the vicinity ( 15- 10 min by car) there were alternative breakfast places, some restaurants and a grocery store. Highly recommended for a 1st short hike or for a late afternoon trail run: the Oxtongue rapids.

At Somerset Lakeside Resort the rooms include bed linen and towels. This is a beautiful, scenic resort set in a quiet area. A little difficult to find along the road because the sign is small and somewhat covered by trees but once you find it you never want to leave. Our cabin had its own dock., fantastic for enjoying the sunset and watching it rise again with a cup of coffee. We would definitely stay here again. We were only there for one night due to our travel schedule but would love to return for an entire week. We spoke to some other travelers who shared that they go there every year. We can understand why!
