As I had a personal guide for the whole time I was in Kharkiv my look around this city was planned for me. But the churches, Gorky Park, Shevchenko Park, exhibitions, cafes and bars were just lovely to see, but the local food is amazing and I will be back soon. The dolphin show was great, and the visit to the zoo all very enjoyable. We would spend 10 hours a day looking around the city and still not seen everything.

In Western Ukraine Kharkiv is not known to be much special, I've never thought of it as a great tourist place. Well I was proved wrong. The city has everything: architecture parks, night life, great restaurants, etc. It is totally worth visiting and spending several days in. Also, in the city center there is a sweets shop with local candy, they're just delicious especially the one called 'Morning Star'.

From someone who doesn't like large cities, Kharkiv is OK. It has a few unique attractions(one less now Lenin has gone) and is not so big that it has traffic jams and drowning numbers of people. The ZOO needs to be upgraded or the animals need to be released, particularly the Polar Bear. The Dolphins are very talented if you like to see wild animals in confined environments. The river meanders nicely thru' the city and there are informative museums and monuments.

As Ukraine's second largest city and me being more mature, it really depends on what your own circumstances are. The restaurants and cafes are excellent and value for money. The food is wide and varied from traditional to Slavic to western to eastern. What ever you desire is here. For families the Gorkey park and water-park are amazing, and I am assured that the night-life is excellent. Do not forget the art galleries and the collection of miniature sculptures they are amazing. What ever your taste there is something for you. My second time here was in summer so a fantastic time was had just lazing by the many pools. Access to hotel pools and spas can be bought by day ticket as well as the bigger out door centres. If here in summer make sure your property let has air conditioning. Taxi costs are very varied but reasonable for a large city. Fortunately I know a Russian speaking person in Kharkiv which helps a lot. However there is a but, any longer than 14 days and you will be bored. If you pushed yourself, ate in your apartment then you can cover Kharkiv in 7 days and cheaply. Will I be going again.........my future wife says yes.

The metro is efficient and whilst it is busy at peak times there is little of the pushing seen in some other cities. To avoid queueing at the ticket machines I recommend buying a prepaid card which costs 20UAH deposit from the slim grey machine in the entrance hall and then loading money on it at the larger machines. These have the option to have the instructions in English. To get to Gorky Park or the Childrens Railway which is one stop later use trolleybus 2 from outside metro Universytet. Pay the driver - fare 2.5UAH. To use other trolleybuses or the trams you will definitely need to have brought a map of the system with you but once you have that they are all easy to use. If you are at all interested in Railways then a visit to museum close to Kharkiv Pass, metro Pivdennyi Vokzal, is recommended. Entrance was free, it had 3 well lit rooms showing various aspects of railway history and outside there are a number of locomotives, road vehicles etc well presented and all able to be photographed. Although all the descriptions are in Russian this did not seriously detract from the visit.

Kharkiv Isn't Touristic City, It Has It's Monument And Noteable Place, But It's An Industrial City And You Should Remember It. There Is What To See In Kharkiv, Specially In The Summer, But A 2-3 Days Trip Will Be Just Enough.

Kharkov or Kharkiv is about an hour's flight from Kiev and was once the capital. Some of it is naturally a bit communist grey tower blocks but there are some beautiful squares, parks, churches and architecture. This was just a flying business visit but I could have spent a happy couple of days exploring Kharkiv further. It doesn't have the same Western feel as Kiev, not as buzzing but also not as commercialised.

Kharkiv was a city with extraordinary parks and cheerful people. Walking in the streets under the trees and walking among the people in the gorky park was enjoyable. There are many alternative alternatives for fun and entertainment.Although the prices are cheap, the quality is very high..

The city is my favorite one in Ukraine. I especially like Historical Museum area, Constitution Square and Maxim Gorky Park. Kharkiv is getting better every year with its new buildings, reconstructions, parks and recreational areas. We like to eat at Mundstuck bar or De Gusto restaurant. Both places offer good food at reasonable prices.

Kharkiv is very surprising town. I didn't expect too much, but I got perfect experience and I will come again for sure. Beautiful parks, historical museum, delfinarium with great show, many different restaurants with international cuisine... When you are in Ukraine you have to try their chocolate (Roshen stores are everywhere or to go to the Lviv handmade chocolatier. In central park which is so huge you have also amusement park and lot of fun stufs for kids. Panorama wheel is perfect if you want to see all town from up. It moves slow, whole ride is about 20 min long... Also you have cable car in central park and it gives you perfect view of hugeness of park... Metro is very good, every few minutes you have train... i would like to go there again!
