These are troubling times to write a review of Kharkiv.
These are troubling times to write a review of Kharkiv. I've been here before - it's a magnificent city, and it's peripherally under attack. Much of the population has moved away - to Kyiv or beyond into Europe. That said, people still live here; commerce continues; the universities, transportation, parks, and zoo still operate even if the city is not quite herself. I can neither recommend nor discourage travel here - it's entirely up to your discretion. That said, there are very few foreign tourists to slow you down these days.

I'm an American volunteer providing non-lethal support for Ukraine during the current conflict. Like all of Ukraine, Kharkiv is under a US "Level 4 - do not travel" restriction, but I've had no issues.
There are air alarms, but if you are conscious of your environment and make good decisions, you will be fine. It's all about statistics and luck.
The people of Kharkiv are warm and welcoming. Trsnsportation in the city is working - metro, bus, Uklon, Uber, etc. The food is wonderful and the prices are low by western standards.
I particularly enjoy the rynoks (markets) throughout the city. You can find anything from car parts to soviet memoribelia at very reasonable prices.
There are many volunteer opportunities in the city and I can't wait to get back - I am at the end of my 3 month tourist visa and am applying for an extension.

I move through Kharkiv regularly in my capacity as a...
I move through Kharkiv regularly in my capacity as a volunteer and aid donor to Ukraine. Kharkiv pre-war a beautiful city like most large Ukrainian cities. Kharkiv at the moment during the crisis is a different city totally, very different to Kyiv or Lyviv where for the most part life goes on and everything is open and functioning. The current Kharkiv has lost its soul slightly in that many have left and not returned, it is very quiet and deserted in many places and there is still extensive damage to the Northern suburbs and even in the city centre. There are still regular air raids and regular shelling and attempted attacks from Russia, but people are trying to get on with life. So if you wanted to explore a beautiful city at a time when it is less congested, probably a good time. Please don't let my comments deter you, as any tourist dollar is needed and people need to also see visitors as it gives them stamina and resolve knowing people have not forgotten. Kharkiv is a big city and spread out over a large area, it has two real contrasting sides, one which seems quite industrial and the other a mix of modern and old historic structures among parks and greenery. As for amenities, Kharkiv still has all you need operating at the moment and you can get very good deals on accommodation given the current climate.

Kharkiv is a city for Youth!
Kharkiv is a city for Youth! A lot of young girls, students, international students make it EU city like and even more. Very good fine dining as well as casual spots ) Cheaper then Odessa (a bit more expensive as Lviv) I did not expect to be so authentic in the downtown (but clean)

Kharkiv is not really a touristical city, but that is just the interested point about it!
There are many interested places to visit, prices are affortable, many places for eating and drinking. Also, nice parks, in the city or not too far away.
Yes, you can spend several good days here!

Third time staying here and I will stay again. Location is nice and quiet and green and all rooms located on ground floor which I like. Place is nice and clean and the the rooms are a good size and well fitted with comfortable beds. Wifi worked well and there is a convenience store nearby. Staff member was friendly and helpful. There are only 10 rooms in this place on one floor so its great for a quiet relax and the location is the best feature. Will stay again.
Nothing... the hotel was closed due to the war and in shambles. I could not get another hotel until2:30 in the morning only with a police escort as the curfew starts at 11pm. Why is this hotel on Booking now? It was real security risk for me alone at that time and not knowing anything about the area.
