All i can say is Vientiane is city with extraordinary aura..the city view is very mesmerizing..unlike any other city, this one is not so busy. You can take a stroll ir ride a bike to see the city center and things that it can offer.
This was three years ago. Maybe Vientiane has changed. The food is unbelievable and the locals are great. However, please beware of the tuk-tuk drivers. They’re absolute extortionists, and I’m saying that very nicely, too. Vientiane is good for maybe 1 or 2 days. You have to visit the countryside to explore the real Laos.
Vientiane is a sort of one-horse town. I'd not stay there more than 2 nights unless you plan to do day trips elsewhere from the city. It's very small and the top 10 attractions are almost all temples. If you're not into temples it's not a great place. I did enjoy walking along the river and there are some really nice restaurants but it's just not an exciting place.
Vientiane is a beautiful mix of French colonial architecture and Laotian character. Walking along the Mekong River walk of an evening and sampling delicious street vendor food is a great way to spend an evening. There are many beautiful temples to visit however my favourite site within Vientiane was the COPE Visitor Center. This small but impressive collection depicts the tragic impact of unexploded ordnance (UXO) remnants of the Vietnam war on Laos and the amazing work this volunteer organisation does to help people injured by UXOs. If you want to explore a bit of rural Laos which is not overrun by tourists a visit to Nam Ngun dam is highly recommended. The Nam Ngum Dam is a hydroelectric dam on the Nam Ngum river, a major tributary of the Mekong in Laos, situated 60 kilometers north of Vientiane. Here you can enjoy a delicious and inexpensive meal while sitting on a covered pontoon moored out on the lake formed by the dam, giving you a beautiful vista. A taxi can take you there and on the way back to Vientiane you can stop at the Laos Zoo. A great way to spend the day.
Come here, and be respectful! If you are seeking excitement, Vientiane is probably not for you. This place is great for a relaxing spiritual trip through observation. People here are a bit shy but warm, the food and coffee are great at reasonable costs. Please omit the plastic bags unless you really need one! We all know how big of a problem it is to the world, so don't contribute to it when you are traveling. :) Finally, do not hold your western standards while you are anywhere in SEA, this is a developing world and you are paying a fraction of the cost for everything. Be respectful, caring and kind to the locals, and you will enjoy their hospitality. Peace!
Vientiane is great for a short visit and the wide variety of different types of restaurants concentrated in the Centre is very convenient, if your goal is to shop for goods other than handy crafts there is no reason to go Vientiane though. Nightlife is non existent other than the Bor Pen Nyang bar which also needs to close around midnight.
Vientiane is often overlooked by first time visitors to southeast Asia, and to be honest it was happenstance that landed me here last year. Had it not been raining in Thailand we never would have made it here and that would have been a shame. It's an amazing little city with incredible food, people and culture. The pace is perfect if you've just been in bustling Bangkok or Saigon- as it's slowed down just enough to be able relax but not so much that you feel you're in a total backwater. Take then city tours and eat the street food, can I recommend the Lao sausages? There are a string of higher end restaurants in the city center that do not disappoint and a zillion holes in the wall that serve up some nice larb. The first time we stayed here we kept extending our stay, now it's a major part of my pilgrimage to Southeast Asia.
Sitting on the banks of the Mekong, Vientiane is a quiet city with leafy boulevardes in parts and a few sites of significance. It’s flat and walkable and the airport is close to town. Lots of food options and an extensive night market.
vientiane is not a big city like bangkok, but it has a big and pure heart. the local people and environment just remind my childhood a lot. let's come and visit vientiane, the symble of nature.
Vientiane is a good place for those who wants to see life of local people lived their lifes. When i was in Vientiane i feel i was back 10 years later. I liked the way women dressed in unique suit, so charming.
The apartment is located in downtown Vientiane, albeit a kilometer away from the core so you will need a taxi (I recommend the Loca app) to get around, or you can walk to the core. The apartment itself was very spacious, modern and comes equip with a separate kitchen that also houses a washing machine, which is a must if the duration of your travels are more than two weeks. There's also a few restaurants around and a cute cafe right next to the property that serves very good coffee and cake.
This centrally located hotel is an excellent value to stay in Vientiane. Location is in town, with night market street foods outside the door. Many good restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance. Facility has enough amenities, room is of moderate size, very clean, ample hot water, and the upper floors have balconies overlooking the city. Staff is exceptionally helpful with informations and arranging transport. I like so much that I return to stay there again before leaving Laos.
Vientiane
I cannot describe how comforting this hostel was after a day of weary traveling coming from northern Laos. Everything was sparkling, immaculately clean and comfortable. This was easily the best hostel amenity/value wise I’ve stayed at out of dozens. It would be an incredible place to recoup and settle into Vientiane, but it was an amazing stop over night for me as well including breakfast. Thank you to such a courteous staff - they were so communicative and kind and receptive.
Vientiane
GREEN PARK BOUTIQUE HOTEL A super find in Vientiane. We loved it for its colonial feel, fabulous rooms, lovely pool area and friendly helpful staff. Quiet location. A walk to bars and restaurants but worth the walk to stay somewhere so lovely. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel. It was charming in every way. A special thank you to Mong who was fantastically patient, helpful and everything was done with a cheerful smile. He was a star of the show.
I went to meet my Laos English grandson age 5 ..for the first time....... Vientiane was just wonderful .the hotel is in a fantastic location .staff couldn't have been more helpful....I'm 70... My room was excellent for the price paid..bright modern comfortable.....for me the breakfast was slightly disappointing.......however I Initially stayed at The Laos Plaza. Different price. So shouldn't really compare both......would recommend. From my heart..
It was just a wonderful stay- the building style, colonial style furniture, exquisite decor, staff that quickly learns what guests like and dislike and treats guests professionally and cordially. Hotel management is present, accessible, and friendly. Interesting stories about the history of the place and how it coped with the recent COVID crisis. The Garden and the pool area are an enclave in a busy Vientiane. The food was good and nicely presented.
We stayed for two weeks at the hotel as part of our move to Vientiane (and search for a new home). The hotel is exactly what you expect, great breakfast, amazing gym, good pool with more then enough beds to relax on, 3 different restaurants with different price ranges and big underground parking for people like us with own transport. There is also a lot of food, shops and other things within walking distance from the hotel.
Vientiane
Beautiful room in a quite street located near the center of Vientiane. Situated right above their cafe which serves really good coffee and has some good breakfast options. The apartment was super clean. Nightmarket and everything else is in short walking distance. The hosts are lovely people and help you with everything you need. We got a last minute train booking through them, thanks again! :) we hope to come back soon!
The hotel staff was exceptionally friendly and accommodating - even staying up to check us in at midnight after our LCR train from Luang Prabang was delayed by 3 hrs. The property has lots of character and a beautiful pool. Breakfast is on the verandah overlooking the pool and delicious. 5-10 min taxi to airport and this was also arranged by hotel. Highly recommended for a Vientiane stay!
Vientiane
Coming to Vientiane without expectations we did not know that the property is right in the middle of Vientiane night life, which was great as right across the hotel is a night market that serves plenty of food. The Mekong River is also a ten minute walk from the property which adds to its accessibility. The staffs are extremely helpful. So far, everything about the property is great!
Great location in Vientiane, just by the nightmarket but on a quiet street so no noise. The main restaurant streets are also parallel. Hotel has obviously been newly done up, bedding was immaculate, bathroom is modern and big enough the shower didn't soak the toilet. Smart tv in room and comfier bed than most in Laos. Breakfast had enough choice to get by though not a la carte.
Vientiane
Highly Recommend for a Relaxing Stay "I had a fantastic time at Vientiane Garden Hotel. The large pool was perfect for relaxing after a day of sightseeing. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was one of the best I’ve had. The staff were super friendly, and the billiards table was a fun addition. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Vientiane!
I booked a room facing the river. Was nice to open the windows and look at. My bed was comfortable. The room had aircon. The breakfast was very nice, with lots of variety. The staff were polite and professional. V Hotel is close to the night markets and in walking distance of many cafes, restaurants. I booked my bus to Vang Vien with the hotel. Thankyou V Hotel Vientiane.
Beautiful elegant hotel, huge rooms that are very well maintained. Located within a short walking distance to Vientiane’s business district, restaurants, bars and clubs. Helpful team members, all speaking excellent English. The rooftop restaurant with a 360° view of town and the river serving yummy breakfasts and a chill place for evening cocktail.
Location was great with most sights you wanna see in Vientiane on walking distance! Staff is very nice but having a separate guy opening the door is a bit silly Breakfast timing is very short from 7:30-9:30 so I missed it, looked very good though Renting a scooter is cheap but you get what you pay for.... See the negative comments
I liked just about everything. The location was great, breakfast was quick and filling, the staff were wonderful. DaVika Hotel is a great place to stay if you are in Vientiane for an evening, or you need a long-term place to stay that is in good condition, has great staff, and ensures your stay was comfortable and safe.
Traveling around Asia for several weeks: This was by far the best accommodation I had. Spotlessly clean, lots of space, first-class, modern facilities. Best breakfast selection. Very friendly and helpful staff. Since I had to go back to Vientiane on the way back, I naturally booked the hotel again.
La Poet Hotel was a welcome reprieve from our long haul into Vientiane. Service, accommodation and breakfast were excellent and the roof top pool utterly amazing. There was a food market right around the corner serving excellent fare. Highly recommended stay when in Vientiane
This is my third time back to Vientiane but this time I am really satisfied, a hotel with a very large campus, swimming pool, room up to 40 square meters. Everything is very new, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful, very worth the money, I will come back next time.
We liked this as a stopover location for a single night in Vientiane. Good location for some of the key highlights of the city, easy to get to from the airport, and a taxi to the train station if travelling north in Laos is 40 mins by cab.
