The reception was able within minutes to organise a WhatsApp call with a doctor: and thankfully this fully solved my health concern! Also, the reception staff kindly sent the breakfast up to my room while I was recovering. Even aside from this exceptional care, the attention that the hotel gives their clients at all times is simply amazing. For example they sent - also via WhatsApp - a list of activities that can be organised on a Monday when some other museums are closed. I can't thank the staff enough for their kindness.

It was the cleanest town visited, a rather good quality of food at an affordable price. Good stuff for one-two days stay (Lambayeque included!).

Chiclayo as a city has little to offer you would not want to miss, but is the place to stay for going to the surrounding highlights: Huaca Rajada which is the Sipan site near Sipan village and the Sipan Royal Tombs Museum in Lambayeque town. Chaparri Nature Reserve for a great nature experience in the dry forests, with spectacled bears and superb bird watching (best to stay a night or two at the Chaparri Ecolodge, not really cheap but unique and value for money, far away from noisy villages, towns and Chiclayo city). Depending on your time: go visit Tucume: huge pyramids and a very well made new museum. Ventarron: a short detour on the way to the Sipan site and an amazing archaeological site dating back 5 thousand years ago with unique mural paintings (oldest in the Americas). Sican Museum at Ferreñafe is worthwhile for the excellent display of what has been found at important Sican tombs. Have lunch in Lambayeque at El Cantaro, best value for money. Also nice to experience: Pimentel fishermen village, with traditional canoe-like caballitos made of reed according to a more than 2 thousand year old design; see them landing on the beach around midday, while enjoying a lunch of great seafood.For a good coffee (quite difficult to find in Chiclayo), go to Casa Andina Chiclayo (with good restaurant as well).
The city is noisy and busy. But you come here to explore Mochicaland. Lambayeque's two museums (Tumbas Reales, AND Brüning museum) are a must, even at the risk of "museum exhaustion". The colectivo taxi from Plazuela in Chiclayo to Lambayeque is fast, comfortable and cheap, 2 soles. Go to the iPeru info office hidden inside the Townhall (Municipalidad) on the side of the cathedral. They have good maps and helpful advice. And cruise around the Mercado Modelo, a rabbit warren, till you find the Witches Corner, where you can buy spells against politicians and mothers-in-law. It's affordable.
Only real reason to go to Chiclayo is as a stopping point to see the museums at Lambayeque which are superb.
It wasn't Chicalayo township that was so good but its proximity to Lambayeque and Tucume. I found the museums and historical sites spectacular.
Lambayeque is good to visit the musseums. There is not aquitecture or good acomodations Set up for expectation low.
