City Hotel de Jonge is situated in the centre of Assen's shopping district, a 30-minute drive from Groningen. There is a restaurant with a spacious terrace. Guests benefit from free WiFi. The hotel was clean and the rooms were comfortable. It was easy to regulate the temperature. Perfectly located in the city centre, the lovely food market on the doorstep on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Although situated in the middle of the city centre, in and around the hotel was really quiet. And the breakfast was the best we've ever had.

Van der Valk Hotel Assen is a 4-star hotel, set just off the A28 highway to Groningen. It is located at the edge of the Baggelhuizerplas and at a distance of 2.5 km from Assen. Room was spacious, clean, well appointed, modern. (To my surprise I received an upgrade) Bathroom also spacious, clean, well appointed and modern. Both shower and jacuzzi. It is a large facility. The internal signage was good. Breakfast full selection Dinner wide selection and tasty. Not high cuisine, but more than standard Buffet lunch for workshop group was fresh, tasty and attractive I facilitated a workshop - the facilities were excellent and the staff friendly and efficient. Easy to deal with in advance and they met all our needs throughout the day.
