Scheidgen is a very small village not worth mentioning it. There is nothing to do except for walking. But Echternach is 7 km away and it takes about 6 minutes to get there by car.
The surroundings of Echternach are beautiful. We had a nice walk around the lake. There are many more walking possibilities and also for bicycles. The weather was not so good during our stay. And that is something which happens quite a lot in Luxembourg.
Nice town located just far enough from Echternach to be accessible yet not in the hustle and bustle. Unfortunately there is a tire plant on the way there and it smelled horrible whenever we passed it - I don't know how people can live there! Fortunately you can't smell it at all from Hotel Bon Repos. Scheidgen is also one of the entry points to Mullerthal Forest - great plus!
The town of Echternach itself is fine Location of hotel with restaurant below and cobbled streets with constant traffic and noise is located too far from a car park (10 mins walk) and you have to pay to park there! Staff were not very helpful except for 1 young girl who spoke German to us Lack of English spoken overall and prejudice in favour of French guests who recived better treatment and even had breakfast tables reserved for them. We had no allocated table and not enough rolls for 4 people No help when having to leave early- I had to ask for the reception to open up at 8.30 in order to leave the keys there(I speak French and German- otherwise nobody would have done this!)
A very small village with only Hotel Gruber so if you wanted more choice then maybe Echternach would suit you better; that said there were nice walks to be had and the hotel has a nice garden and facilities for table tennis and tennis for the energetic. there is a small terrace to the front of the hotel where drinks and food can be taken.
Interesting area, beautiful nature, many things to do. The place feels very laid back and somewhat sleepy. Visited in the middle of december, and had the trails almost to ourselves. Did two highly recommendable day hikes: "E1" (Echternach-Berdorf-Echternach, 12 km, 4 hrs), and Consdorf-Müllerthal-Consdorf, 9,3km, 3,5 hrs, leading through spectacular rocks and gorgeous forests. Easy walking, some up and down but nothing difficult or strenuous.
Echternach doesn't get enough credit for being an old attractive town. Agree that the winter season could be more lively but the main season is when the town wakes up and blossoms.Worth staying there on holidays, great camping and hiking/walking locations, great food and a beautiful lake. A great place to chill.
When we were there, the city was very quite, probably due to low season. but it was exactly what we are aiming for. E1 trail was a nice 12 km walk to warm up, with a nice view as well. Public transports are easily reachable and connect Echternach to most of the city for müllerthal hiking trails. The only thing we were surprised of was shops were closed for about 1.5hours during lunch time.
Our Hotel is in the middle of the town centre, just going around and walk about is great in and around Echternach, nearby all within less than one hour there is a lot of history to be seen, beautiful place to walk so enjoyable. Place not to be missed I love the castle in Vianden I came as a kid and have been visited almost every 10 years. Great the way it has been restored over time! I really beauty from a pile of stone to a remarkable Castle again. Well done to all people involved, it's pride never stop please I am sure there is always space to make it better, I am really happy of all the money I have contributed over the years to it, money well spend.
There are great restaurants, stellar walking and hiking trails and excellent sightseeing - all nearby! Beaufort Castle and Vianden Castle were both great pieces of history. We were at Vianden during the medieval festival, which draws incredible crowds, but it was still worth the 'salmon run' to see the castle and its finishings. We took a day and drove over the border into Germany to see Trier. It's not that far but setting aside a day is a good plan. Being that Echternach is the oldest city in Luxembourg and Trier is the oldest in Germany, we felt like it was a good fit!
The location in Luxembourg was serene and charming. We enjoyed a lovely walk from the hotel into the wooded creek-side Petite Suisse and used a free bus to take us back to our hotel. We were greeted by very friendly staff. The added dinner and breakfast were delicious more than adequate. We enjoyed time relaxing in the lounge afterwards. It was a really lovely place to explore Echternach and Luxembourge countryside.
Very good location! Very good service, nice people! Delicious food! we had two evening dinners in the hotel. It is in the center of Mullerthal Trail, it is quite convenient to the walking routes. we walked E1 from Berdorf to Echternach, very exciting and we took bus for free from Echtenach back to hotel. The next day we drove to Schiessentumpel waterfall. It is quite near from the hotel (9.3km). Beautiful scenery!
Berdorf
We had a fabulous stay at the hotel. The room was cozy, the staff very friendly and welcoming (we got sandwiches to go for our hike without even asking). In the morning and evening, we enjoyed our stay on the little and quiet terrace. From a location perspective, it is great starting point for Mullerthal Trail Route 2 and very close to Echternach, the starting point for Mullerthal Trail Route 1.

great hosts - Paul & Julie were the nicest and most accomodating hosts. went our of their way to meet all our needs. location - out in the countryside a couple miles outside Echternach - very quiet...easy to get to anywhere in Luxembourg parking - plenty of space bed - very comfortable cleanliness - exceptional

Great value for money: - spacious and a clean room, spotless and well equipped bathrooms. - quiet location yet, few minutes by car to main roads, shops and Echternach town centre - great base to explore Mullerthal and venture out to Luxembourg and Trier. - Patrick is a friendly , helpful and multi lingual host.
Food in the restaurant is really excellent! Dinner is a real treat. The team work really hard to do a great job - they were really friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Great location for hiking - you can join the E1 Trail at the front of the hotel and walk down the trail into Echternach.
For breakfast there was plenty of choice. The room was not very large but clean and 'new'. The hotel is located very near the market place, If you step outside of the hotel, 50 meters to the right is the market place. Very close to the rest of the center of Echternach.
The location was very good to walk in the surrounding area.There was a bus stop directly in front of the hotel, which was also very convenient to go to the city centre of Echternach. The staff was very friendly and accomodating.
Played the Echternach Open chess tournament. Had a nice dinner at the hotel's restaurant, a good sleep and returned to the tournament next morning. So really just a short stay, but to our full satisfaction.
