Petra is good for one time and still it is not up to my expertise... The people in Petra try to grab the money in each and every place... The starting donkey ride is include in our ticket but the team force you to give money on their demand... No police will available to control them... Inside Petra even some places you can't go with out unofficial guide permission, even if you complaint police also no use, just you need to skip the place that's all. But I like in Petra is it more secure, no need to scare... Official guidance is very poor. Even though no security it is safe place to go around in side petra
Petra is in Wadi Musa. Amazing Petra ! Nothing prepares you fir Siq and Treasury . It is svery long walk so start early and be at Treasury byabout 10 to see sun shine on stone . it changes colour . if youhave trouble walking/ bad knees etc it is too far so take a carriage for 20 JD - tip 5 ! take water, hat and sun screen and good shoes. The Cave Bar at the startb is welcome at the end with ice cold beer but only opens at 3pm . there is a hotel attachied now. if you want to stay close to avoid another 300-1000m walk to visitor centre you will pay alot but worth it .Information on where to eat / local tours etc is hard to get in Petra so I ate at my hotel - food in cafes in Visitor Center square is very good . Taxis are avalable outside centre but negotiate first. Private car to Little Petra is 15-20 JD - no more . i also got car to Wadi Rum for 30 JD - some were charging 45 JD so negotiate again!! you will have a wonderful time
Petra should be on everyones bucket list! But you need to be fit and take plenty of water and resist talking to the many hawkers trying to sell you items as you walk around!
Definitely go early it looked like a lot of groups arrived in the afternoon. We heard mixed reviews on the night time experience so didnt bother. Absolutely must buy a Jordan Pass (80JD)before you go even if you only plan to do one day at Petra (70 JD). It covers the 40 JD entry visa and then free for other sites eg Wadi Rum and roman theatre in Amman.
I had an amazing horseback ride in the mountains!! A memory I will keep forever! There is much to do aside from going to Petra, like little Petra, Bayeda, the mountains. Don't out all your eggs in one basket in Wadi Musa!
I’d recommend seeing Petra as it is a UNESCO world heritage site, but be prepared to spend lots of money as the exchange rate for the dollar is $1.41 per dinar. There are so many other charges that made the trip incredibly expensive!
Buy a Jordan pass before arriving in the country (as long as you’re staying more than 3 nights). The base one is only 70JD. If you’re visiting Petra then it already saves you 20JD (40JD for the entry visa and 50 for the Petra ticket) from the beginning and even more if you visit other places like Jerash or Wadi Rum.
Quaint town in the middle of the Jordanian desert. Petra is a several day experience. Wadi Musa is right at the entrance. You will find good food and places to stay and really great local people.
With a car it is perfect to select a hotel a bit further away from Petra national reserve. Al Anbat is relatively cheaper because of the distance. Next time I may go to one of the camps closer to little Petra. The tents or canines look comfortable and give you a better feel of the environment. This time we took a jeep tour and entered Petra at the backside of the monastery. From there it is one hour walking to the monastry. Good for a change and when you're tired walking. We enjoyed zawaya restaurant genuine food for a good price.
Petra is great but not as 7 wonders great. Maybe just the climate is too hot and stuffy I did not enjoy much about the scenery or culture. But I must say Bedouin’s are not reliable honest businessmen, rather they are too doggy to deal with.

Our stay at Nomads Hotel Petra was truly memorable! The room was spacious, comfortable, and offered a stunning view, making it the perfect retreat after exploring Petra. As we were on our honeymoon, the staff went above and beyond by adding some lovely little decorations to the room. These thoughtful gestures made us feel so special and added a personal touch to our stay. The overall experience was fantastic, and we would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Petra. Thank you, Nomads Hotel, for making our honeymoon even more magical!
We had a wonderful stay at Petra Aretas Hotel. The emminities and location were great. Value for the price The location is close to the visitor center. We used the public free parking facility opposite the visitors center for tourists. The hosts - Mohammad (Sallar) and Mohammad (Mojo) were exceptional. Don't forget to have Mansaf (Jordanian delicacies). Let Sallar / Mojo help you with that. It was one of the best we had in Jordan 😀 Will highly recommend this place, whoever is planning their next visit to Petra
Petra Heart Hotel is an excellent choice for anyone visiting Petra. The location is perfect, just a short walk from the main attractions, making it super convenient. The hotel itself is clean and comfortable, but the standout feature is the amazing staff. Abdullah was exceptionally kind, always smiling, and went above and beyond to help with any request. Najafi was also a fantastic receptionist, ensuring everything was smooth during our stay. Highly recommend this hotel for its great service and location!
I recently had the pleasure of staying at Petra Canyon Hotel and I must say it was nothing short of exceptional. From the stunning views of the canyon right from my room to the impeccable service and attention to detail, every moment of my stay was truly memorable. The luxurious accommodations, top-notch facilities, and delicious dining options made it a truly unforgettable experience. I highly recommend Petra Canyon Hotel to anyone looking for a luxurious and unforgettable stay in Petra.
At Dana Trails Hotel, the sunset views and nights are amazing. The warm hospitality, especially from the friendly Bedouin staff, adds a special touch. Plus, don’t miss the Jordanian food made by the perfect cooker ! Please have dinner at the hotel ! We have eaten at a lot of restaurant during 10days of Jordanian roadtrip and the dinner at the hotel was by far the best !!!! And it is the perfect location to visit the Dana reserve and Petra ! The views are perfect really just go there !!
Petra Guest House Hotel – special We carefully chose this hotel for its location and facilities and over 3 nights it did not disappoint. Excellent breakfast and dinner. Great room (with a balcony overlooking the mountains). Tremendous staff: On the front desk Hanadi and Ibrahm Hanza really helpful (arranged a difficult transit in bad weather to Wadi Rum with driver Ahmed). Amer and the Cave Bar crew (including Zayed) and restaurant team. Omar exceptional. All first class.

The property is off the overcrowded Wadi Musa (Petra), beautifully serene located but with easy access to and direct parking. Its about 9-10 km from the Petra Visitors Center and the road there is well maintained and easy to drive. The Hostel - it really is a Hotel! - is a welcoming and warm Family business and run with absolute kindness and authenticity! The sunsets for the sensational home made traditional dinners are a highly recommended must do!
Wadi Musa
The hostel's location is a major plus, being just a 5-minute drive from the Petra visitor center. This convenience is excellent for those eager to explore the archaeological wonders of Petra without a lengthy commute. Rafiki Hostel also offers good value for money, making it a budget-friendly choice for travelers. The rooftop provides a pleasant surprise, offering a nice view, creating a relaxing spot to unwind after a day of exploration.
I felt like I was treated like family from Sami (I think this is the correct spelling) he was very helpful in organising every single part of my trip which honestly made the experience better. Sami had a local taxi driver called Ibrahim pick me up from the airport and he was just as helpful as Sami and later went on to bring me to and from the city entrance and the Dead Sea! These two men made my stay in Petra Plaza Hotel great!
Hotel next to the Petra site entrance (this is very important, so you don’t have to drive around, especially for example for Petra by night). I just parked my rental car in front of the hotel. Thanks to Ahmad (receptionist) for making the impossible to help me, and thanks to Momen for his kindness, professionalism and his smile. Plus: the jacuzzi was really a nice touch after a day of trekking :) . I loved this hotel.
Competitive prices, breakfast included, and friendly staff. As female travelers we felt safe here and appreciated the kind and respectful staff that went above and beyond to make our stay a pleasant one, they even took time to go over a map of Petra and give advice on what times were best to visit and which routes were best, etc. So happy we chose Cleopatra Hotel after seeing Lonely Planet’s recommendation.
We were a group of 5 friends visiting Petra Sella Hotel. We really enjoyed it, Shadi and the rest of the hotel personel gave us a superb stay. We got offered an extra suite for free. The rooms were modern, clean and the people really nice and helpful. The service was excellent, and we do recommend for everyone who is visiting Petra to stay at Petra Sella Hotel! From Norway🇳🇴
The Petra Moon Hotel was a good choice for our visit! Its location can't be beat, just steps from Petra's visitor entrance. The free shuttle across the street to Little Petra was super convenient, running about every 30 minutes. Breakfast was good, staff was very friendly and helpful. Recommended for easy access to the wonders of Petra!
Wadi Musa
Amazing, unique experience sleeping under the stars in at Petra Bubble Luxotel. Hotel staff were true professionals and could not have been more kind or hospitable. Included breakfast and dinner were filling and delicious. A wonderful stay. Just a quick 15 minute taxi to Petra. If a ride is needed, ask for Abdullah, he will take care of you!
The service in Hotel it's amazing! When we came , and during all our 2 days , personal was very attentive! They treat for us coffee, dates , sweets. Also they shared very useful information about Petra : to start from back entry ,it was more easy. Breakfast was good also. Location it's good. The bed in room was big and comfortable.
To be clear, the Petra Icon was mysteriously closed when we arrived to check in. A representative from Petra Moon Hotel drove to the Petra Icon entrance and informed us that our reservation had been moved. As suspect as this was, everything worked out. Therefore, this review is for the PETRA MOON. In short, everything was great.
Wadi Musa
Great value for 2 families visiting Petra. Apartments sleep 5. ACs and towels provided in bedrooms, dishes in the kitchen. Table and chairs in the kitchen, fridge, large seating area and TV. Spare outlet adapter in the apartment just in case. Weren't able to partake of the homemade dinner on the rooftop.
Wadi Musa
Hostel with a great view of Petra, double beds in cabin, hot shower, they can provide breakfast and dinner for a cheap price (for Petra). You can take a local bus early in the morning to go to Wadi Rum, just ask them to book a seat for you. Very clean and well located.
Wadi Musa
We learned about Petra Guests Hotel through a friend. BEST RECOMMENDATION EVER! Mr. Mohammed, the owner and host went above and beyond with recommendations on what places to visit according to our schedule. He welcomed me and my friend as you welcome family.
Hotel room was very clean, spacious. Staff was very friendly and supportable. Hotel location is great and very close to the Petra visitor entrance. Food and breakfast were good, hotel has a free parking. Overall we enjoyed the 2 nights spent in the hotel.
