Set in Rinondoran, Birding Cottage Tangkoko offers a garden. There is a terrace and guests can make use of free WiFi and free private parking. At the hotel, all rooms have a balcony. This place opened only a month ago and it is still somewhat of a hidden gem: cozy cottages that face away from the road and towards a small river and the rainforest, AC, brand-new bathrooms with warm water and complimentary water and mosquito repellant. The breakfast was different each day and delicious, as were the home-cooked lunch and dinner! The owner and his son (avid nature photographer and specialised in birding tours around and outside of Indonesia) are both excellent guides and we saw lots of wildlife in one single day (yaki, kuskus, tarsiers, hornbill, kingfisher, ...) We had a lovely time, not only because of the hotel, but especially because the family who owns the place was so welcoming and kind! Thanks for everything :)

Dolidi Ndano Towale Resort has a garden, shared lounge, a terrace and restaurant in Peura. Herson is the most friendly host we had in all our South East Asian travels! He gives a lot of positive energy and is always willing to help, e.g. with scooter rental or a taxi to Ampana. The restaurant has excellent food for a good price. This all comes with a spacious room with fantastic views across the lake, like if you are in the Togean Islands! At night it is silent with nice rainforest sounds in the background. There is a private pier from where you can go swimming in the lake or just relax.

Facing the beachfront, Hotel Santika Luwuk - Sulawesi Tengah offers 3-star accommodation in Luwuk and features an outdoor swimming pool, fitness centre and garden. Hotel is about 15 minute drive from the airport. Room was big with lots of space, and had an excellent view of Luwuk and the ocean. There was also a desk and chair as well as a small sofa. Lots of space for luggage and belongings. Was quiet except when people were passing by in the hallway. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. Shower had great pressure and lots of hot water. Robes and slippers provided in the room. Staff were all very nice and helpful. Convenience store just down the hill as well as a couple restaurants and Kilo beach.

Makkassar is an interesting city with lots of history. Visit the old Dutch fort, eat street food at the sea front ( Losari beach). A good stop for a few days when traveling to Toraja or elsewhere in the southern part of Sulawesi.
Rantepao is worth the trip. The architecture and culture is unique in the world and the landscape is of a breathtaking beauty. If you go there, ensure you go uphill to have the amazing view on the landscape of Rantepao. If you have no car, there are public pick-ups which will take you there. Different to other places in Sulawesi, Rantepao has some welcoming restaurants and we were served by very friendly stuff.
It was simply the gateway to exploring other parts of Sulawesi. Very busy city, seafront unattractive with smell of the sewers. Difficult to get around on foot. Airport was Ok.
Bunaken hat nun einige "tote" Saisons hinter sich und versucht sich bis zur Saison 2023 zu erholen. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis ist daher etwas uneinheitlich. Man sollte sich im Voraus erkundigen, welche Facilities einem persönlich wichtig sind. Es lohnt sich, die sehr unterschiedlichen Strände auszuprobieren, welcher einem zusagt. Es gibt mittlerweile diverse Möglichkeiten hin und weg zu gelangen (auch direkt zur gewählten Unterkunft), man sollte sich erkundigen. Manche der frühreren Unterkünfte existieren nicht mehr.
Makassar is a pot of Eastern Indonesia.The city consists of people from Sulawesi, Papua and Maluku. It is an interesting place, nice people, and the city is growing fast. It will be nice IF: - the taxi at airport is organised better, just copy Jakarta or Surabaya - the beach is clean - there is a booking place to go to islands and explore surrounding islands.
Makassar is the gateway to Sulawesi. Awesome food can be found here. It can be hot and busy. Not a lot of touristy things to do but that the way i like it. Cheap shopping and lots of gold.
Makassar was the start of our Sulawesi Trip , Nice place very interesting to see Fort Rotterdam. Personaly I like Toraja land much more than Makassar
Trips to Makassar are not complete without a couple of days spent in Bantimurung National Park. Indonesia has some of the most amazing biodiversity in the world, and Sulawesi is a hotspot of endemic creatures.
Manado is a good starting Point/Basis for trips to Bunaken Island or to the Highland. We can recommend the North Sulawesi Museum and the local market at the harbour, it was very interesting There isn't any nearby beach. No or only few possibilities for dinner or lunch or night live nearby Aston Hotel, may be at other parts of Manado.
Makassar is the start point of a tour of South Sulawesi - there isn't a huge amount to see here in the way of tourist sights. The city is right on the sea-front, and the area is known as Losari Beach, it isn't a beach for swimming or lazing on the beach - the sea comes right up to the promenade wall. In this area are lots of eating stalls serving street food from the different parts of Indonesia. It is pleasant to walk along here and see how each area of Sulawesi has its' own dedicated section. The locals are very friendly, we had a nice interlude talking to a group of schoolgirls eager to practice their English with a questionnaire from their school. There are several nice hotels here of international standard, we were very pleased with Best Western where we were rested and prepared for our tour of S. Sulawesi. The traffic in Makassar is pretty dense and it wasn't easy to get from our hotel to the beach front, about 10 minutes walk and crossing roads thick with traffic. If we ever visited South Sulawesi again we wouldn't hesitate to stay in Makassar, but it isn't a destination we would chose for its' culture: it is at present a stepping off point for seeing more of Sulawesi.
Bitung
Best food during my travel to Sulawesi, some of the dishes qualified for gourmet. Great AC was much appreciated after spending 8 days in a previous hotel which did not have.. Location is perfect, 5 minutes ride to the Park or the Beach village or a short 20 min stroll. Hotel will take you and pick you up from the village/beach if you wan tot go fro an hour or so (No much to do see there). The Park guide they selected was excellent.
Maros
Accommodation is really basic, but I would prefer to stay in this homestay than in 5 star hotel everyday. Owner is one of the most helpful guy that we have ever met. He picked us up from the airport, help us with trip around Rammang Rammang and also booked us bus to Toraja. Jesse can cook best fried rice in Sulawesi. Whenever I visit this part of Sulawesi again, I will stay in Rammang Rammang House for sure! Thanks for hosting us.
Manado
We adored our time in Cocotinos, so much so that when a different part of our North Sulawesi trip fell through, we immediately went to book again at Cocotinos. The food is good and varied (Western, Indonesian, everything is well-made and available), the staff are sweet and polite and thoughtful, the dive shop and crew are solid, and the grounds + garden + pool + beach + rooms are all clean, in perfect shape, and welcoming.
I had a fantastic stay here. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate me; they made me feel at home. I had a complicated request for a doctor who speaks english and they organized the entire thing for me. Robbie and Rafael were very helpful in organizing my bus to Toraja. The bed was very comfortable. It might be the best bed on Sulawesi, seriously. The room is large, the view is nice, the TV works well.
Bunaken
We had a wonderful week at bobocha siladen. All rooms are very tastefully furnished, very clean and comfortable. The whole team is very courteous and you feel very welcome. The food is incredibly good, fresh and varied. Overall the best hotel in North Sulawesi we have visited. Again many thanks to Sarah and the team for everything it was more then beautiful.
Manado
We had an amazing time at istanaku and came back twice during our North sulawesi trip. The staff was really nice and also helped us out a lot organising things. The hotel is very new and was the most clean we had in Indonesia. Breakfast was also very good having vegetarian options as well.
The hotel accommodation was very pleasant particularly considering the location in a remote part of Sulawesi. Rooms were spacious and prettily designed almost like a boutique hotel. The location between central Ampana and the port for Togean Islands was convenient.

Good location near to the waterfront without being on the main road. Neighbourhood is quiet and I could have a good night's sleep. Room and bathroom both modern with no issues.
