This is a lovely city, but there's not much to do besides eat, shop and walk. I happened upon the band, Tuna de Derecho de Santiago performing late one night across from the cathedral. They are fantastic! The best part of my entire trip to Spain, I felt as though I had experienced a little of authentic Galician culture. Seek them out! The Museum of Galician culture is nearby, and well worth the trip. But beware, it closes early, at the time of this writing, 2 pm. I could have stayed in there for hours. The museum is set in a very old convent but is modernized, with beautifully designed displays. And the biggest surprise of all, just off the garden are a set of double doors...the museum adjoins the ancient church, completely accessible to the public. It is lovely! And the tapas bars in this (northern) part of Spain are unbeatable...the best in the world!
Coruña is a very tranquil small city with exquisite gastronomy and great fashion from stores to the lovely well dressed ladies on the streets even to go to the market everday. It's a daily fashion show. The old city has lots of history as well as the smaller towns all ober Galicia. Coruña is a MUST VISIT!!
I loved A Coruña, especially area where I stayed, in between port and beach and near promenades and shopping and Ciudad Viejo. Food was great and so much to do and see. If I visit again, I'll practice Galician more, so I will be able to understand the menus and the tapas. And communicate. Also pay attention to when cafes and restaurants open. 20:30 dinner is too late for me. Highly recommend a visit of at least two days, so you can sample the chocolate and churros, ice cream and tapas.
I walked into Santiago from the Camino. The city is clean and where the Camino Frances ends is where the tourist activities and shops begin. If you keep walking through the city past the church and down you plaza Galicia you'll reach the train station. The bus station is closer to the entrance to the city. It was worth spending a little more to stay closer to everything. Walking past the entrance to the church you'll find dozens and dozens of Tapas bars. Get a glass of wine and people watch with some Pinchas!
The Cathedral of Santiago contains the relics of the Apostle Saint James, is the endpoint of the Medieval pilgrimage Camino de Santiago, and shouldn't be missed! The old city is full of great shops and restaurants plus museums, monasteries, and other historical sites. There are numerous seafood restaurants with fantastic Galician-style tapas dishes.
Vibrant city where the old and the new merge.. We stayed in a hotel next to Estrella Galicia brewery so we ate there the first night... after trying it we couldn’t try anywhere else! Fantastic ambient, food and beer! Shopping is amazing. People were out eating and hanging so the city was live!
Avoid the Galicia tourism office. Sourly and unhelpful staff we found. The tourist office at the pilgrims reception centre is brilliant. Very friendly and superbly knowledgeable staff.
Beautiful small big city in Galicia - we go very often as we have family there but always as tourists and enjoy visiting the city, restaurants, and just enjoy being there!!!
Cathedral is the main sight with the old quarter which is excellent for exploring. Food is decent and not pricey at all. The market is typical though nothing special. Principal bus station is 1.4 km from cathedral which is not far. I think strolling in the old quarter is fun. Walk to the Galician museum for a look, it is fun too.
Amazing amount of history. Really loved the Museo de Galicia - lots of great information. Food delish - but beware-some places charge more for eating outside (terrazzo). Also some don’t take credit cards and some have minimum credit card purchase of $10 (euros). Lots of places to choose from - use internet sources for recommendations. 😊
We stayed here during a major wind and rain storm. The waves outside our window were amazing. Even though the hotel is on the inlet and not directly on the Atlantic Ocean, the view of the water was stunning. The room was large and very clean, and the bed was comfortable. The staff was very accommodating, especially in the midst of the storm. There were several restaurants just 2km away in a picturesque little fishing village. Galicia Spain is a seldom visited secret and the Isla de la Toja is magical.
Corcubión
Location was brilliant. Open plan kitchen/living area. Balcony overlooking the bay. Fully furnished. Adequate for our needs. Host was very helpful and easy to communicate with. We really enjoyed our stay at the apartment in Corcubión and visiting the surrounding area. Galicia is a lovely part of Spain, which luckily, isn’t overrun by tourists, which gives it a unique feel when exploring and using the natural amenities the area provides. Locals are very friendly and welcoming.
A Coruña
This is one of the best properties we have stayed in. Well equipped, airy, open space at both ends with sea views, comfortable inside on the day it rained. Jacuzzi is great. Although we didn’t get to meet Isabel in person, and we didn’t have a common speaking language, WhatsApp and Google Translate meant that we were given all the info we could want (places to eat, visit), and the few questions we had quickly answered. Galicia is great, so is Caion, and this apartment is great too.
Smart, traditional hotel - think 4 star without pool or fitness.Very near start of the camino though a slight walk to bars and cafes in city. Alternatively eat in for a Galician style meal. It is very near the district of Canido, take a look at the street art- great fun. The free car park is small but the spaces do turn over if you wait a little in the day time. Staff speak adequate English, which is not always true in this part of Spain. I would be happy to stay again.
Santiago de Compostela
Nicely furnished, with an inbuilt kitchen with everything you need (fridge, stove, dishwasher, kettle, coffee maker, microwave) and a washing machine (which I came to appreciate a lot while traveling), the apartment is in a quiet area near the Old Town (5 min walk downtown, 10 min walk to the Cathedral) and near Parking Galicia (5 min walk; underground parking) (there is place in front of the apartment to stop and unload your luggage, but you can’t park there).
A comfortable, clean hotel in a good location within a 15-minute walk of the train station, the cathedral, the Museum of the Galician people, and lots of restaurants. The nice woman at the front desk spoke English well. The elevator was very welcome with heavy bags. The water pressure and hot water in the shower were wonderful. Lots of outlets in our room (number 202B). We had a nice view from our window of terra cotta roofs and distant green hills.
We couldn't have made a better choice than staying at Hotel Marea and choosing a sea view room - waking up to the sounds of the waves and going for walks on the beautiful sea-side path were highlights of our travels around Galicia. Hotel was extremely clean, and little details like coffee and snacks in the room made a difference. Comfortable beds, kind staff, and an amazing local restaurant right below the hotel. We can't wait to come back!
The apartment is light and airy, great size for leisure stay. Great location, easy access to Mercadona and Growgym and generally the shopping district of Nantes, underground parking, two spacious balconies, big TV for a movie night. Simon as the host was very welcoming and available, replying to whatsapp within minutes and happy to assist in any way needed. Loved the place and the general area of Sanxenxo and Galicia! Can't recommend enough.
Everything about this hotel was excellent. The rooms were comfy, very spacious and clean. The breakfast was amazing with a fantastic choice even a local Galicia table with local wine and cheese, you could also order eggs and a cortado. The staff couldn't have been more helpful with excellent restaurant recommendations. The hotel is in a superb location too with an easy walk to the centre
Pontevedra
This place is the best. The facilities are of course clean, comfortable, and in a great location, but Sonia makes it feel like a home. She offers an amazing tour which really enlightens guests into the Galician spirit. The hostel is full of QR codes with facts and stories that make you feel like part of the family. Truly a great place to stay for a few days so you can enjoy Galician life!
Cedeira
This was one of the biggest surprises during our tour through Spain and Portugal. At the worlds end, you were welcomed with one of the most modern appartments. Brand new renovated and equipped with all possible amenities. Small and familiar. The beds were just great, the breakfast good. The area in the neigbourhood is lovely - deepest Galicia. We can only recommend this facility.
Both Marta and Cristina at the front desk are an invaluable asset to Blue Coruna Their welcome, friendliness and , especially, their assistance, not just with our stay in A Coruna but on our further travels in Galicia was exceptional. Often it is the people who make the hotel and they certainly make Blue Coruna a place we would happily return to.
Viveiro
Absolutely fabulous apartment!! Great location, spacious, fully equipped, super clean and with private and super convenient parking place. Apartment thru its setup and design has really nice vibe, feels like apartment from a movie :) On top the owner and staff are super friendly and very supportive. Fantastic place to stay in Galicia!
Santiago de Compostela
Small cozy hostel full with family history. Clean everywhere. Perfect location. Short walk to Cathedral, Old Town streets, restaurants, etc. Beautiful interior. Serving breakfast by the owner. Julian, the owner is like a tour guide, familiar with Santiago and Galicia history. Overall beautiful, friendly and highly recommended.
The apartment was centrally located, very clean, stylish and comfortable. Beds were great and the kitchen well equipped. As it is in the heart of the old town, you do need to be prepared for a bit of late night noise from the local bars. We really enjoyed Pontevedra and the wider Galicia region and would love to return one day.
We stayed at Hotel Victorino as a base for exploring Galicia’s countryside and also Illa de Arousa and Pontevedra. Great cost benefit. Clean, nice views, helpful staff, comfortable bed, easy free parking outside, and it has a lift. The town is quite small but with enough walking distance options of bars, cafes and restaurants.
Very close to heaven you find this gem in the galician mountains above Pontevedra. In a tranquil setting you find this beautiful hotel, run by a family who offers the best service you can wish for. Everything from wonderful breakfast to best possible advices to the best wineries in the area. You can’t wish for more!
The city may be a long walk away, but that's not a problem. There's a convenient bus service available, as well as a grocery store and shopping mall nearby. Parking is also plentiful. Additionally, the Estrella Galicia factory museum is located close by, along with some friendly local bars.
The person at check-in was extremely helpful regarding parking, spa reservation, restaurant information, etc. We loved the spa experience followed by an amazing dinner at the hotel restaurant. The waitress Leticia was one of the most professional servers we have met in Galicia!
Arzúa
The check-in was perfect, with warm welcome and we got very useful information. It gave a very good feeling. The service was perfect. There was a terrasse and it was great to rest there. That's the best hotel we stayed in during our 1 week trip to Galicia.
