Extremely peaceful. Lovely room, great walks. Nice onsen - always quiet. Food was amazing - authentic Japenese. Right in the middle of nowhere next to nature
The owners were the kindest people on this planet, we arrive late in the evening after check in hours and they greeted us with smile and kindness, even prepare a dinner for us! Forget about temple lodging, this is THE best place in koyasan! Suzume-san rules :)
This place is amazing… from the spectacular views from the room, to the incredible meal, and the amazing people who run this lodge.. you can’t go wrong.
Saizenin is a beautiful temple situted slightly away from the main road. The staff was warm and welcoming and the room was big and comfortable. The food being shojin-ryori, was very different. Overall it was a truly unique experience to stay in a temple lodging.
The temple is so beautiful and the lodgings are spacious, comfortable and clean. We stayed in a room without bath, so used the communal Japanese bath which was also very clean and pleasant. It really is a unique experience but would recommend two nights as one night would be a bit rushed. The vegetarian food is exquisite and delicious. The meditation and chanting were very interesting and definitely worth it. Overall would definitely recommend this place for a two night stay.
Great place to stay before starting the Kumano Kodo Nakahechi route, host spoke good English and was very helpful and knowledgeable about the logistics of various sections of the trail, good to meet fellow hikers at the lodge too :)
I really enjoyed the traditional Japanese lodging experience, and seeing the prayer service in the morning. Great cultural experience!
Everything from the check in process to the stay. The staff were extremely helpful, and the lodgings were just as beautiful as others in the area! The bedding was exactly the same as other shukubos, and the bonus kotatsu set up was so wonderful on a cold and rainy day. Travellers not used to the custom of a Japanese bath house (communal bathing in a gendered, open room) may feel turned off, but we had absolutely no problems keeping it simple and immersing ourselves in the culture.
Super serene lodgings. The monks as housekeepers was a refreshing change from the usual hospitality establishments. They all spoke perfect English. Deeply cultural experience. Food was excellent.
The accommodation is great for tourists looking for an authentic Koyasan experience. The lodge is a traditional japanese complex, the room is spacious and included tatami, futon and yukata and there are also two hot tubs, one for men and one for women. Finally, be sure not to miss the two morning ceremonies with the monks
Staff was super helpful, good position in Koyasan, very good onsen baths, comfortable simple rooms. The morning ceremony where guests were invited to participate was amazing. Also very good price, one of the cheapest temple lodges I found in Koyasan. Many of the other temple lodges are too expensive in my opinion.
