The bird food in the feeders was a nice touch and the welcome basket was thoughtful and appreciated. A visit from a pole cat, whilst we were sitting outside was a nice surprise.

The Upper Gilwern Quarry Hut is situated adjacent to a fossil hunting quarry, where guests are guaranteed entrance to dig for Trilobites for the duration of their stay. The hut is small but perfectly formed. Clearly a lot of thought has gone into the layout and equipment to make best use of the space. We had everything we needed bar a microwave which we could live without. We didn't get chance to use the outdoor equipment but could see that the outdoor space had been well thought through as well...even had a little fountain to sit and listen to! We were able to have a lovely mooch in the quarry and found plenty of Trilobites as hoped, to the be able to come back into a lovely, cosy and warm space to thaw out. We plan to come again in the summer months when we can get the best of the beautiful Welsh countryside.

Set in Velindre, 48 km from Elan Valley and 14 km from Clifford Castle, The Living Energy Holidays offers accommodation with free WiFi and a garden with a terrace and mountain views. We used this as a stop on the lon las cymru route 8 and couldn't't fault this little gem, Lynette and David were fantastic hosts from the minute we arrived. The accommodation is nestled in beautiful surroundings and the facilities are clean and well maintained and the beds comfortable, everything you need for a great stay. There was a secured room for our bikes and the breakfast was excellent, with a wide choice of continental and a full English, it really set us up for the day. Highly recommend.
