Ideal for nature-lovers looking for a self-sufficient getaway, lodges are fully furnished and self-catered. Usually made of wood and surrounded by forests or mountains, lodges can be part of a group or a single unit. More remote than holiday homes, lodges are popular for safari trips.
Ski in, ski out! Meals are really good and not repeatitive. Nice view from common lodge and open air bath (rotenburo), large sauna! Various meal options in nearby cafeteria. Atmosphere is great.👍
My wife & I stayed at Irihata Onsen hotel for 2 nights on a Tohoku ski trip. It’s a 20 minute or so drive up to Geto Kogen ski area. The lodge is very remote and having car was nice to have options although they do have a shuttle to the ski hill. It’s in a beautiful setting on the river. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. The food was plentiful and delicious. And the Onsen was nice to soak in after a day of skiing powder. It was a good value for the price.
