The property was very simple but it was everything we needed. The water pressure and temperature was good, the bed was comfortable, the food was good, the WiFi worked, the staff was friendly. The location was incredible. It really was a unique experience. The guided tours were really cool. We saw howler and spider monkeys, five different snakes, all sort of frogs, many birds. The guide was really knowledgeable and Pedro was super helpful. I would absolutely recommend staying here to someone.

The location right inside a small tract of rainforest meant that there was activity day and night - and by activity I mean bird, frog, insect and monkey noises in some combination. The leaf cutter ants right on the property were endlessly amazing. Lots of places to walk around or lounge about.
The staff were amazing, very helpful in arranging a boat tour for us, and generally answering all the questions we had.
The food was buffet style, and not fancy, but tasty and fresh.
The nearby coffee tour is very interesting (and you can do other tours there as well), and the boat tour from Puerto Viejo is worth the trip into town.

Ideal for nature lovers looking for a self-sufficient getaway, lodges are fully furnished and have kitchen facilities. Usually made of wood and surrounded by forests or mountains, lodges can be part of a group or a single unit. More remote than vacation homes, lodges are popular for safari trips.
We had a standard room that had mosquito screens but no windows so you could hear the river and sounds of the jungle. Also had walking trails around the lodge. We saw toucans, hummingbirds and many other birds and butterflies on the property. Listening to the rain was heavenly and we even got woken up by howler monkeys in the morning. The staff were super helpful and lovely. Helped us book taxis etc.
Beautiful, peaceful lodge. The sounds of the rainforest to sleep and wake up to. Wendy and family are fantastic hosts. Food, massages and all tours were exceptional 👌
We spent two nights at Selva Verde Lodge during our Costa Rica trip. The lodge offers beautiful, spacious rooms with air conditioning, which were honestly the best accommodations we had during our trip. The property is well-maintained, featuring its own trails, a restaurant, a souvenir shop, and daily guided activities. The staff is incredibly friendly and always willing to help.
Fantastic accommodation, surrounded by a rainforest full of wildlife. The night walk was wonderful, we saw snakes, spiders and a lot of frogs. The blue jeans frog was stunning and we hosted some bats in our lodge too! Food was plentiful and delicious, we wish we could have stayed longer
The lodge is very unique. The rooms are in traditional styled huts. Each hut has about 6 rooms inside, and the rooms are decorated with indigenous artwork. Each room has its own seating outside. The grounds are beautiful and very interesting to explore, set amidst an archeological site. The restaurant serves delicious food and has lovely open views. The on-site infinity pool is stunning. The lodge is next to a rainforest nature reserve with a river and hanging bridges. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. Highly recommended.
Deep in the forest, away from everything, but still working WiFi. You can get close by your own car, but the last kilometers you need the transport offered by the lodge.
Some real jungle trails around the lodge, you should use the rubber boots.
The lodge garden was amazing! You can see so many different birds during the morning breakfast. We saw more birds here than during our private 8hours birdwatching tour! Apart from that you can also see basilics and other reptiles around as well. The owner was very accommodating and helpful.
The Grand Gavilán Lodge is beautifully situated at die Sarapiqui River. It has it's own little jungle with nice trails through it.
The people there were very friendly and helpful.
The clean Swimmingpool was nice although some plants around it still need to grow ...
