The location is great. Walk across the road and you are at the board walk and the beach. You can sit in one of the chairs on the grass yard facing the ocean and enjoy the view and a coffee. Very friendly staff and roomy, clean, quiet rooms.

The location is good as we wanted to visit Hearst Castle and hang out in Cambria, both of which are close by. I would recommend the ocean front rooms which are much closer to the ocean. We had an ocean view room which is back further on the bluff and far from the ocean. The in room fire place was nice and we used it daily.

San Simeon has to be one of my favourite stops along the California HWY1 Coast Drive. Hearst Castle is a must, but also, the Sea Lions at Seal Point are also part of the main attraction of this sleepy seaside jewel in the crown of California.

Clean rooms, friendly staff. Located very close to hearst castle, and a short drive from multiple beaches. Restaurant attached to the hotel has good seafood at very reasonable prices.
Access to the beachfront walkways, fire pits, gathering areas of the Cavalier Resort next door (its sister property). Enjoyed sitting watching the waves after dinner. Good budget option for visiting Hearst Castle-10 minute drive & San Simeon. Clean accommodation-comfy bed and hot shower. Loved having the Cavalier Restaurant next door for breakfast and supper. Food was great! Hotel staff w were friendly! Overall great option!
The motel is an older facility right off Hwy 1. The rooms are old but are comfortable and clean and generally well cared for. The room refrigerator is generously sized and there were adequate outlets for our CPAPs. For those that don't need fancy and prefer not to pay top dollar for a place to sleep for a night, the Silver Surf motel fits the bill. This was actually our second stay at the hotel on trips up Hwy 1. It is conveniently located several miles south of Hearst Castle and the elephant seal nursery beach.
Perfectly located 5 minutes away from Hearst Castle and 3 minutes walking distance to the beach, the owners are charming and gave us a warm welcome. The pool is large and heated, the jacuzzi was a great bonus as well. We were happily surprised by the quality of the continental breakfast featuring excellent butter croissants and good orange juice. This motel acted as a nice hotel rather than a simple motel. The room was also very large and nicely decorated, with fun nostalgia-like appliances.
Conveniently located nearby Hearst Castle--our last stop on our way home. Breakfast was plentiful and fresh. Quiet, large room. Looks like the hotel was formerly an apartment complex as most hotels don't have such lush landscaping. Nice balcony to enjoy the early evening sunset and view of the beach.
We love this wonderful old hotel. We stay here at least 2 times a year. The architecture is lovely and Julia Morgan has drafts of Hearst castle adorning the wall.
The pipes make noise, no air conditioning, bathrooms are dark. We love every nuance of this place. The location if perfect. We are near the castle and Cambria. The beaches below the hotel are very nice!

Staying at the hotel is like going back in time. Even though we live only 45 minutes south, the unobstructed view of the ocean is marvelous!
Nice clean room with restaurant in hotel, pleasant meal at a reasonable price. Hotel staff were very helpful. We stayed here to visit Hearst castle the next day, very well located for this purpose.
The hotel was pretty close to Hearst Castle, it was clean and comfortable, the staff was very friendly and helpful, I really recommend this nice place!
The location along Hwy 1 was ideal. There’s easy beach access, and restaurant on the property was good for breakfast. The grounds and facilities are clean and maintained. The hotel is about equidistant to the town of Cambria (5 mi south) and the San Simeon Hearst Castle (5-6 mi north).
