Empire State Building
Stretching into the sky at 120 storeys high, the Empire State Building was once the tallest building in the entire world. Not for the faint of heart, its observation deck provides a bird’s-eye view of NYC. Dodge the crowds by visiting between 8 and 11AM, and snap photos uninterrupted with the Big Apple as your backdrop.

Expensive but worth it.
Expensive but worth it. Staff at the top were helpful and knowledgeable about the skyline. Good exhibition about the history of the building. We went on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in August without booking and there was no queue!

Get a city pass with access to the Empire State Building if you can. This will save on the price of entry ticket as well as allowing you to skip the queue on arrival. Well worth it if you are short on time.

Keep in mind that it gets very busy and it's heated during winter, so it can get very hot and crowded inside. I would recommend layering clothes so you can stay an okay temperature during the whole visit.
I wouldn't wait for the elevators as it can get very long, you can always grab the stairs up to the viewing points and it's only 6 flights.

Be prepared to wait.. In line..for a LONG time.
Be prepared to wait.. In line..for a LONG time. The views at the top are phenomal, it really has a beautiful city scape view, but we spent hours queuing here and it is very badly organised.. There were two queue lines, but everyone queued on one side only as there was no one available to tell us where to go.. Then folks from the very back of the queue decided to go into the other queue line, and skipped past all of us who had been waiting for hours. Very unfair but no-one was on hand to organise the crowd

My maternal grandfather and grand uncle were two Irish workers who helped to build this historic building. I am extremely proud of them for their contribution in helping to build an iconic building. Buy a New York Visitor card - it saves you a lot of money and also you can beat the queues too.

I was on 33rd floor with a glorious view of Empire State Building. (Paid a premium for this, 12th floor, for example, does not)
Functional hotel.
Clean rooms.
Fast lift/elevator
Breakfast basic, but ok
Small (THAT IS STANDARD IN NYC!), but cozy and very efficient new rooms with good lighting and a great view (Roomtype: Balcony). The view is not obstructed by buildings on the other side of the street and gives a spacious feeling in an otherwise crowded city. Spectacular view of the Empire State Building. Since we travel a lot, we prefer intelligent designed rooms over spacious rooms. Everything had its place and was right where it should be in this tiny room. In regards of our needs: Best hotel in NYC so far!
Nice hotel, with helpful staff, in a superb location for MSG, Times Square, Penn Station (useful for getting to/from the airport), Empire State Building etc. Nice and roomy fridge that was very efficient.
Great location, right near the Empire State Building. Incredible to get out of the hotel and see that building right over there. Clean Hotel, sympathetic staff.
The location is perfect, subway right beside the hotel, walking distance from Times square, Empire State building, Central park, Rockefeller centre, pretty much everywhere. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Concierge available to leave bags after check-out. The room was well equiped, even the dishwasher in the room works great. WiFi worked perfectly.
The location of the hotel is so convenient for public transport and within walking distance of attractions. Our room had a great view of the Empire State Building and Madison Square Garden.
The location was fantastic with 5th Avenue and Rockefeller Centre within a 2 minute walk. Also easily walkable to Grand Central, Times Square, Central Park and Empire State Building.
The hotel was spotlessly clean and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Our room was spacious and had TV, towels and a hairdryer.
It is truly in a great location, a stone's throw from Times Square. There are shops, restaurants, Subway Stations, Broadway all so close by and easy walking to other things like the Empire State Building, Rockerfeller Centre, 5th Avenue, Central Park. The rooms were modest but it is midtown Manhattan but clean, comfortable and with great airconditioning and bathroom. Staff are friendly, efficient and helpful. I would certainly stay here again and have no hestitation in recommending the hotel.
I had a wonderful two-night stay at the Pod Times Square Hotel for a conference. From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming. The room was very clean, cozy, and equipped with a nice private bathroom. I especially enjoyed the great view of the Empire State Building. The hotel felt secure, as a badge was required to access the rooms. It’s also extremely well-positioned, making it easy to explore the city. Highly recommend this place and would gladly stay here again!
Just one street and two blocks from Times Square. Could see Empire State Building in one direction and the edge in the other from the room. Rooftop bar amazing views.
Shower was the first in a long time at hotels that don’t leave us moping the floor.
Concierge service very helpful and accommodating.

If you want to avoid the crowds then I suggest going very early or late. My best suggestion is to do the Empire State Building at night. I went at 11.30 and didn't wait in line at all!! It's also open til 2am.

Check if you can book in advance.
Check if you can book in advance. The best thing we found was booking a time slot early in the day (at Rockefella and 9/11 Memorial) and returning later in the day after experiencing places where you didn't have to queue (Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge). This meant we didn't waste half our day queueing for an attraction (queues for Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building were horrendous and did not offer the option to book a time).
