Stretching into the sky at 120 storeys high, the Empire State Building was once the tallest building in the entire world. Not for the faint of heart, its observation deck provides a bird’s-eye view of NYC. Dodge the crowds by visiting between 8 and 11AM, and snap photos uninterrupted with the Big Apple as your backdrop.

Expensive but worth it.
Expensive but worth it. Staff at the top were helpful and knowledgeable about the skyline. Good exhibition about the history of the building. We went on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in August without booking and there was no queue!

Get a city pass with access to the Empire State Building if you can. This will save on the price of entry ticket as well as allowing you to skip the queue on arrival. Well worth it if you are short on time.

Keep in mind that it gets very busy and it's heated during winter, so it can get very hot and crowded inside. I would recommend layering clothes so you can stay an okay temperature during the whole visit.
I wouldn't wait for the elevators as it can get very long, you can always grab the stairs up to the viewing points and it's only 6 flights.

Be prepared to wait.. In line..for a LONG time.
Be prepared to wait.. In line..for a LONG time. The views at the top are phenomal, it really has a beautiful city scape view, but we spent hours queuing here and it is very badly organised.. There were two queue lines, but everyone queued on one side only as there was no one available to tell us where to go.. Then folks from the very back of the queue decided to go into the other queue line, and skipped past all of us who had been waiting for hours. Very unfair but no-one was on hand to organise the crowd

My maternal grandfather and grand uncle were two Irish workers who helped to build this historic building. I am extremely proud of them for their contribution in helping to build an iconic building. Buy a New York Visitor card - it saves you a lot of money and also you can beat the queues too.

The one plus of the location is that there is a subway station right outside the door of the hotel. It is walking distance to Macy's and the Empire State Building. It is a longer walk to Times Square and Central Park, but doable. We felt safe in this area.
The hotel is very centrally located and many tourist attractions (e.g. Empire State Building, Times Square, Flatiron, Friends Experience etc.) and transport links (e.g. underground, Penn Station) are within walking distance. The staff is friendly and will do their best to fulfil your wishes (e.g. late check-out).
We had a room on the 34th floor which had excellent views of the Empire State Building.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
We had breakfast and evening meal at the hotel, food and service was excellent. Gym and pool facilities were great. Excellent location. The hotel really made our stay extra special.
nice hotel, great location. Our room was on high floor with very good view on empire state building. Room was comfortable, nice design. comfortable bed, good lighting.
Lobby bar had a good choice of drinks, modern design, friendly staff. Restaurant has specific openings hours which is not really what we are used to, but that might be OK for USA.
The location of the hotel is in a good place, you can reach Times Square, Edge observatory and the Empire state building with a short walk. The view from the hotel room was splendid, especially in the night.
Checkin went smooth, friendly staff & specifically the concierge, clean room, quiet room (although right next to the busy street), clean towels and made bed everyday by cleaning service. We had a nice view on the streets and empire state building. The hotel was very close to the Times Square and many places of interest were in walking distance (Rockerfeller center, Central park, 5th Avenue etc...). We really enjoyed our stay and was perfect for a few days with my travel buddy. We think it was worth the price.
It was the nicest hotel we had on our US vacation. We had the room with a balcony, with a nice view to Empire State Building. The room was big, the beds were confortable, we had water, coffee and snacks in the room all the time.
The hotel is super well located, 3mn from 2 subway stations and 10mn walk to Madison Square Park. There are plenty of shops and restaurants everywhere in the neighborhood. The rooms are clean and big enough for a hotel in NYC. If you're lucky, you can have a view of the Empire State Building from your room!
We visited over the Labor Day weekend, so hotel rooms in the city were at a premium. The hotel is a short walk to Times Square, and right in the thick of NYC life. Broadway; Fifth Avenue; and the Empire State building are easy to get to; and there are subway stations nearby for further journeys.
The room was comfortable as were the beds; and the staff were accommodating.
Great location of the hotel, a street from Empire State Building, close to the subway, restaurants and shops.
Rooms are clean and comfortable.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was good, American style.
Coffee and tea available 24 hours a day.
We will definietly want to come back here when we are in NY again....;)

If you want to avoid the crowds then I suggest going very early or late. My best suggestion is to do the Empire State Building at night. I went at 11.30 and didn't wait in line at all!! It's also open til 2am.

Check if you can book in advance.
Check if you can book in advance. The best thing we found was booking a time slot early in the day (at Rockefella and 9/11 Memorial) and returning later in the day after experiencing places where you didn't have to queue (Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge). This meant we didn't waste half our day queueing for an attraction (queues for Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building were horrendous and did not offer the option to book a time).
