Basilica Cistern
This cavernous space is the largest remaining Byzantine reservoir in Istanbul. Constructed in the 6th century, it originally provided water filtration for the Great Palace of Constantinople, and continued to supply the Topkapi Palace from 1453 until the modern day. Opened to the public in 1987, you can now explore its lit walkways and be amazed by the decorative, water-worn columns.

so glad I went here, you only need about 30 mins but its beautiful and worth a visit. Beautifully lit and apparently there are concerts there sometimes which would be amazing.

Atmospheric.
Atmospheric. Not too busy when we visited, but you won't be alone. Admission fee but worth it. Exit is obvious, entrance around the corner. If there's a queue, say you want to pay with card and you might beat it, as we did.

its a must visit place as while looking at it one wonders the engineering and architect of that time and the kind of efforts which were made to create a nearly hidden, massive cistern. the ticket price of of 350 lira is a bit steep but since Sultanamet ( Blue Mosque) and Hagia Sofia( now when its a mosque) have no tickets, its OK. all are close by and could be visited in all in 2-3 hrs..

The location couldn't have been more central, just a few minutes on foot from Saint Sofia, the Blue Mosque and the Basilica Cistern. The night life is also vibrant, full of cafes, restaurants and (sweet) shops that just won't let you go.
Everyone in the hotel was extremely helpful and welcoming, meeting all our requests and getting stuff booked for us whenever we asked. We went through them for a Bosphorus Cruise and for a Turkish bath and everything was perfect, including transfers. We were truly pampered.
Magnaura Palace review - spotlessly clean, breakfast buffet with great views; roof top view and picnic area; owner and front desk staff are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable of local attractions; their English is excellent and they have good connections to local guides, restaurants, and taxis. The location is super convenient to Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cistern, Topkapi Palace , Hippodome, and metro tram. Host even loaned their Istanbul Metro card for the day.
The stuff was very friendly and helpful! We had to leave at 5 in the morning. They called a taxi for us and gave us breakfast packages in bags! The room was large, comfortable. The bathroom and the shower too. The view from the Roof terrace is amazing! Do not miss it!

Breakfast was lovely, we enjoyed the selection (different kinds of tea, pastries, olives, an omelette station, etc). Location was really perfect, steps away from a bunch of attractions (literally minutes away from Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, Topkapi palace), and the staff truly went above and beyond and were super friendly, 100/10 just for the wonderful people working there. So many pretty mosaics in the hotel! The restaurant was also quite nice, we had a nice dinner there on our first night.
This stylish hotel is located in a former bank building. They even preserved the original safe room doors on the ground floor. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Tatiana, the hotel’s manager, radiated hospitality. It’s a cozy, yet strikingly beautiful place. Walking distance to Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cistern, Top Kapi palace, and most other attractions of the Old Town. Plenty of good restaurants and a historic hammam right next door. I’d stay there again in a heartbeat.
the staff here was wonderful! very helpful and honest. I planned airport transfer and a tour through them and all went perfectly as well as well done. the location is perfect, a 10 minute walk to all essential sites. be sure to visit the basilica cistern! but don’t eat at any of the restaurants on the street, they are terrible. loved my stay!

Great place to stay with family. Staff are very friendly, accommodating and helpful. Centrally located and very near Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, Basilica Cistern, Walls of Constantinople, Grand bazar, can take tram from here to Karakoy for Galata tower, Galata Bridge, fron Eminence square take another tram line going straight (not in Karakoy direction) for Balat. Staff has introduced us very good restaurant, Massa Bistro, just behind the hotel.
Perfect location, very nice and comfortable room, helpful and friendly staff! Hagia Sophia, Sultanahmet, Basilica Cistern, Topkapi, Gulhane park and other major tourist places are literally just around the corner. Also the public transport stops (Marmaray station, Tramvay station) are 5 minutes away making it easy to get around. Breakfast is great, wifi works good. Will definitely stay there next time we are in Istanbul. Special thanks to Veysel and Suat for making our stay as comfortable as possible.
