The view from our room was amazing as it overlooked the ocean. The room itself was very clean and spacious. Plenty of room for our fa family of 4. To our surprise and great fullness the bathroom was separated from the toilet room, which isn’t normal for a hotel. The staff was kind and helpful whenever we had questions. The common areas were clean and welcoming.

It is a very nice and cozy place, right on the beach (which was the first swimming beach in Japan). It has a special aura, it seems a bit out of time. Special and comfortable. The area is also beautiful with interesting shops and places Nice onzen.

The staff at Bali Resort Saya went above and beyond to help us do several things in Toba that we couldn’t have done ourselves. Perhaps the most helpful staff of any hotel I’ve stayed in. They also have free snacks and drinks (including alcohol) every day. The rooms and entire hotel has a Balinese theme with carvings and gamelan music in the background- very serene. The views from the rooms are a sweeping panorama overlooking Toba Harbor. The sunsets and early morning were especially spectacular. Toba is pretty far off the beaten path for English-speaking tourists, so you’ll need Google translate to get around, but the vibe of the town is very laid back. Reminds me of a Japanese Bar Harbor, Maine. Amazing seafood too!

Very Distressing
Very Distressing
Some fish species (notably Japanese) were displayed in clean, spacious environments with abundant natural underwater plants.
However, many imported species were kept in horribly overcrowded, stark, bare enclosures completely devoid of any plant life. Some species had no room to swim or even move freely and were just piled up on top of one another, as though dead, in various corners of their enclosures.
In one heartbreaking instance, a North American beaver was displayed in a small, bare concrete and glass enclosure without a single branch or leaf or grass or seaweed. The unfortunate animal was half submerged in water and flailed non-stop with its front paws at the glass barrier at us, the "human" visitors. It occurred to us that the poor beaver probably does this all day, every day, in its desperation to GET OUT of its "prison". Nobody who visited that day seemed to notice or care.
It was truly heartbreaking to see the condition in which many of the "denizens" of Toba Aquarium are kept.
The ongoing mistreatment of animals at this facility calls for the attention of international animal welfare advocates. Please help!!!
