I enjoyed the traditional Japanese room with the tatami and futon, I liked the onsen, the property was well maintained, I had a beautiful Mountain View, and the area around the hotel is serene. The family mart in the lobby was very convenient. The hotel staff were friendly, helpful, and accommodating.

The property is beautiful prettier in person than on Instagram! It’s a classic old stole ryokan so it might not fit the bill if you’re looking for luxury and modernity. If you’re looking for quiet and simplicity (and a rotary phone!!) and a more traditional experience this is it.

Everything! It was beautiful and peaceful. The staff was so kind and helped us at every opportunity although we speak no Japanese. The onsen was gorgeous, our room was spacious and had an amazing view, and our private onsen was clean and beautiful.

I was very disappointed.
I was very disappointed. It was very expensive, the photos very beautiful, but when we arrived we found it to be old and dilapidated. It felt like a sausage machine - an old Holiday Inn. Not at all the upmarket onsen it is advertised to be. The river and baths are lovely but everything else was not. They made us pay again to stay on during the day. I thought that was appalling. To be honest, I felt robbed. I will never go there again and will never recommend it to anyone. There must be a million other beautiful places to go. A complete waste of time and money.

Absolutely beautiful Onsen and Building.
Absolutely beautiful Onsen and Building. Food and service were great, lovely lady in the gift shop. I got up early and went to bathe at 6 am and had the place to my self, it was surreal and no bugs. Just sounds of the rushing river.

Delicious breakfast. The dinner was also very good. We chose this hotel because of its great location.
The people working at the hotel were extremely helpful to us. They gave us recommendations for snowshoeing, where to get lunch in town, and how to get the bus to Takaragawa Onsen. Much appreciated!
As we rented a car, the drive to Takaragawa onsen was really pretty in the snowy setting. Through winding roads the mountainous approach was the best part of our stay.
