I booked a trip here with my family, without knowing it is Shinjukus red-light district. To be honest, it wasn't that bad--you see touts on the street and lots of hosts/hostesses dressed up as boy band members or maids, after a certian time of night, and they're quite proloific in Kabuki-cho, but they never engaged us, nor we them. Hot tip: don't engage them or go into any bars they recommend unless you want $1000 bills on your credit card. My impression is that Tokyo's seedier places are relatively tame in comparison to other countries seedier areas. If anything, the whole place became like a unique spectacle at night for us Europeans. Seeing this side of Japanese culture purely as an observer was intruiging. I wouldn't go around at night with younger teenagers though, as that might feel innapropriate. Older teenagers over 17 will be fine with parents though. I didn't get chance to visit Golden Gai, because the 10-15 foreign touts circling the entrance way put my wife off going in.

Definitely an interesting area for nightlife in Tokyo.
Definitely an interesting area for nightlife in Tokyo. Once you've navigated Shinjuku station, you'll find yourself having to navigate the streets and alleys of Kabukicho. If you want a place to drink, hit up Golden-gai, but be prepared to wait for a seat at the bar or to pay a service charge.

Golden Gai is an eclectic small enclave that houses many cool little bars. Don't be afraid, there is a basic bar charge ranging from 500 yen, its your entrance charge. Drinks are priced with some menu items. My favorite is a photography centric bar called Kodoji. Hands down a very cool place to walk around and learn about japanese culture. Located at the heart of Shinjuku Kabukicho. You only have to step out and you're already in the middle of all activities. Price was very affordable. Necessities were all included and even better than most hotels. Staff was great.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful whenever we had questions or any problems. For hot days there's a vending machine right outside the building. A Family Mart around the corner and a wash & dryer spot a few steps away. Freshly baked bread made at a spot that's a 2-3min walk. A good 15min walk to Kabukichō if you're interested in anything in that area. Sakura Cross Hotel Shinjuku East is a good spot to stay with everything around you and at a walking distance!
Rooms were nicely sized and had a laundry machine. Breakfast was very good, although not cheap for Japan (~2000¥ or $14USD). They accommodated our group's request for adjacent rooms. Free coffee machine in the lobby as well as plenty of seating. Good location next to a station (Higashi-Shunjuku) and Kabukicho, though we walked 10-15m to Shinjuku-Sanchome station most of the time to catch more direct trains to where we were going.
The Hotel is situated in the heart of Shinjuku/Kabukicho area. It is lively and vibrant with all types of people, restaurants, and convenience stores. The staff were outstanding and went above and beyond anything I've ever encountered. Charlie and Kengo were very on top of every need we had. The breakfast buffet at Jam 17 was wonderful as was Starbucks and the Namco game room on the third floor. Highly recommend this property.
The Shinjuku Prince Hotel is conveniently located in the heart of the Shinjuku Kabukicho area filled with restaurants, bars, stores, stations, and the general nightlife. The staff were very helpful and knew English. The breakfast was great especially considering it's hard to get a quick, warm meal like that so early in Tokyo.
I had an excellent stay at APA Hotel Higashi Shinjuku Kabukicho Tower. The staff was friendly and check-in was smooth. My room was modern, clean, and well-equipped, with a very comfortable bed. Despite the hotel's central location in the vibrant Kabukicho area, it was quiet and peaceful inside.
The proximity to Higashi Shinjuku subway station made exploring Tokyo easy. The hotel's amenities, including a restaurant and fast Wi-Fi, added to the convenience. I highly recommend this hotel for its comfort, location, and value.
Modern, clean room, friendly staff and great location in the heart of Kabukicho, 10 minutes of walking from Shinjuku station. Be aware, this is really in the heart of Kabukicho, so there are some drunk people on the streets late night and early morning. But it is what is it, they didn't bother us at all.
The location and hotel is just iconic. It’s in the center of Kabukicho just few mins from the station. A must visit for first timers specially
The rooms and bathrooms are extremely spacious considering other hotels in Tokyo. The service is great, amenities are great and even the front seat and concierge are extremely helpful. There’s a 7/11 right under the hotel. Super convenient
