The location was the best part. Easy access from/to Haneda airport and to most major spots you’ll hit in Tokyo. The 7-11 right outside of the hotel was a godsend. The hotel’s food court and bowling alley were convenient options. There is a variety of restaurants and bars to choose from, a drug store, 100 yen store, even a hospital all within walking distance.

The capital of Japan, Tokyo is a vast, teeming metropolis nestled between mountains and Tokyo Bay. It’s so huge that you’ll have to come to grips with public transport and maybe even experience being pushed onto a train. Yes, it does actually happen!
Get your bearings by ascending the Tokyo World Trade Center near the waterfront, and savor the fantastic views taking in the red-and-white Tokyo Tower and Shinkuju’s skyscrapers. North is Ueno, home to the best museums (including the Tokyo National Museum) and a large park bursting with cherry blossom in spring.
Equally tranquil are the Chiyoda Imperial Palace and Gardens, surrounded by water. Also in gardens is the Meiji Jingu Shinto shrine in Shibuya, a youthful district where neon abounds.
For more traditional Japanese culture, head to Asakusa whose Sensō-ji Buddhist temple is Tokyo’s oldest temple. Outdoor markets sell a variety of wares, though shopping in Tokyo is, of course, fantastic wherever you go.
Whether you stay in a Japanese ryokan, luxury Tokyo hotel or a hostel, don’t fly out of Tokyo Narita Airport or Haneda Airport without having tried sushi. Another Japanese institution is the sento (public bath) and onsen (hot springs bath) – a must try. Also incredibly popular are Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, Asia’s 2 most visited theme parks.

SOOO much to see, it's hard to choose where to go and what to do. Buy a Pasmo subway pass. It makes getting all around town so easy. And then just keep walking and eating your way through town. Shop for deals, especially on food. And don't hesitate to ask for help or directions. People will kindly help you and if you can't communicate easily, Google translate will be the trick!

Tokyo is a city that seamlessly blends tradition and modernity, offering an unforgettable experience for visitors. From its futuristic skyscrapers in Shinjuku and Shibuya to the historic temples of Asakusa and Meiji Shrine, the city caters to every kind of traveler.
One of Tokyo’s biggest strengths is its efficiency and cleanliness. The public transport system, especially the trains and subways, is one of the best in the world—punctual, well-connected, and easy to navigate even for first-time visitors.

I'd only ever stayed in Tokyo on business before, so this was my first time on holiday. I spent three nights in Shinjuku at the start of the trip, and four nights in Roppongi at the end, with travelling in between - but you could easily spent two weeks just in Tokyo and still not be satisfied.
Shinjuku is as lively as I'd been led to believe, with a distinctly different atmosphere than other parts of the city. I stayed in APA hotels in Tokyo which are great value and in some excellent locations; the Shinjuku one was only five minutes or so from Golden Gai. The Roppongi APA meanwhile was only 10-15 minutes from Tokyo Tower.
Transport links in the city are excellent and incredibly cheap compared to what I'm used to in the UK, and I was able to easily visit Shibuya, Nakano City, and Akihabara, as well as the places I stayed. Walking is a pleasure (and you'll be doing a lot of it), and even if you spend some time driving (as I did, hiring a couple of cars during my two weeks, with some driving around Tokyo itself) it's surprisingly easy - basically, any method of transport works.
Finding a great restaurant is as simple as turning the next street corner. Activities aren't especially expensive unless you're deliberately seeking out the really touristy stuff - and in Nov/Dec when I visited, even the touristy areas aren't overwhelmingly busy. In autumn, a visit to any of the parks is essential to catch the autumn colours. And if you have access to a car, then you're only a few hours away from Hakone and amazing views of Mt. Fuji.

If you stay is Asakusa, I highly recommend hiring a bike for a day or a few days and riding along the Sumida river and back streets. It is super easy and the roads, footpaths and drivers ensure it is a great and safe experience,

It's my second time at this property and after trying other hotels too (both 3 and 4 stars), I can definitely say that this hotel is a true gem. Cosy, modern, unpretentious, stylish, smart hotel that is well-priced and located in the heart of lovely Nishi Shinjuku. Close to Chuo Park and lovely restaurants like Fungo Dining (my fave). This hotel is perfect for a solo traveller and strategically located close to the subways too.
Location is great and very quiet for being so close to Harajuku, Shibuya and Shinjuku. Very clean and calm neighbourhood, but not too quiet as there are a lot of stadiums nearby. Can see baseball games from the hotel lobby, which was a very fun experience.
Clean hotel, nice staff and great facilities. Coin laundry and vending machines within the hotel, including a combini on the ground floor.
- Located close to a Oedo subway station (Higashi-Shinjuku) and at walking distance from Kabukicho area, so easy to move around and a lot of animations available at night
- The hotel was overall pretty clean and felt recently constructed.
- The bed was comfortable, and the shower pressure was good
- The roof terrace was enjoyable to have a drink and relax after a long day of visiting Tokyo
I have always been going back to Sunroute whenever I am in Tokyo. The location is fantastic as it is near the JR Shinjuku Station, so it is very easy to get to airport by train from there.
And there is no lack of options for both food and shopping, with Shibuya and Harajuku within 1-2 train stops away from the hotel.
