The sole purpose of visiting Madurai is this Temple.
The sole purpose of visiting Madurai is this Temple. Over the years, has become heavily crowded, barricaded and long queues, but MUST visit for all your travails will be forgotten as you "see" Meenakshi Amman, Sundereshwarar (Shiva), the Big Pillaiyar (Ganapathy) and the 1000 Pillar Hall. Please sit by the Golden Lotus Pond under open sky, especially during sun down. Please plan you visit early morning (5 - 5.30 AM at the temple premises) for great darshan and avoiding long queues. It is in the centre of the City and Markets / Local bazaar for Saris, Bangles, Vessels, Local food is plenty around. Don't miss the bargain shopping if you have time - it is an experience and fun.

If you visit this temple with pure devotion and faith one can experience peacefulness. It is one of the oldest Hindu temple. Lot of memorable history attached to its existence. Great opportunity for us visiting this temple at Madurai.

Make sure you are dressed modestly as there is a dress code.
Make sure you are dressed modestly as there is a dress code. Men can not wear shorts and women should have a shawl to cover their shoulders and head. Your shoes must be left outside the gates. You can check them in at the shoe locker and walk across the uncomfortable cobble stone street to the entry gate, else just wear cheap shoes or sandals that day and leave them outside the entry gate - they should probably be OK - thats what most of the locals do.

For me, going in in shorts is not allowed.
For me, going in in shorts is not allowed. You'll have to tie a dhoti/mundu over it at least. Pants are OK.
You'll have to hand in your mobile phones and other electronics, including camera, at the entrance. Footwear and bags (handbags ok) are also not allowed and there is provision to store them at the same place as well.

The apartment is clean and spacious with a very good location, walking distance to Meenakshi temple. Breakfast is descent.
Babu was very helpful in setting up all the apartments at short notice. He also helped us get laundry service, luggage, and auto when required. Also suggested a few places to visit around. Very good experience.
The proximity to Meenakshi Temple!
I believe the hotel had a minor renovation, the lifts are much better now than my previous visit.
There’s hot water in the hotel (but remember to inform reception to turn on the heater)
Reception had arranged an auto driver to take us around to several temples (affordable rate), and the driver was excellent, took his time to explain the places to us and did not push for us to pay more.
First of all, I'd like to thank the management and staff for the wonderful stay I had at the Pandiyan Hotel. They are very helpful and friendly and made me feel at home. They also helped me to resolve some travel issues, called and negotiated the fare of tuctucs to go downtown. The room is extremely spacious and clean, the food of great variety and quality. The location is also very convenient, a 5 minute tuctuc drive away from Meenakshi temple and other sights.
We reached the hotel at 2am and did not face any issues in checking in. The manager was helpful and guided us for a smoother experience at the Meenakshi temple. Breakfast served was decent enough. Rooms were clean.
It was a pleasant stay.Hotel staff is cool but room service is bad.Outside of the hotel is a waste dump area so not so clean outside of the hotel.very close to Meenakshi Temple.
The room was perfectly sized for a solo traveller, very clean, safe and nicely equipped with all necessities. The staff was very polite and helpful, alsogave me good suggestions on how to go about sightseeing in Madurai. Location is the key here, walking distance from station, Meenakshi Temple and the best shopping lanes. Would totally recommend this stay :)
