“Madurai is a vibrant city rich in culture, history, and spirituality. The iconic Meenakshi Amman Temple is a must-visit, with its breathtaking architecture and serene atmosphere. Exploring the city’s bustling streets, vibrant markets, and authentic South Indian cuisine was an unforgettable experience. The locals are warm and welcoming, making the visit even more enjoyable. Madurai truly offers a perfect blend of tradition and modernity, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to explore the heart of Tamil Nadu.”

Madurai is famous for Temple and food.
Madurai is famous for Temple and food. Local corporation should take care for cleanness of the city. Auto fare is horrible even for short distance. Even after booking through OLA, auto people are demanding extra amount, since we want to go for urgent work, forced to pay extra amount. OLA has to take serious action on local auto people. all most every auto people are demanding extra amount even though booked through OLA

There are many sights and sounds in Madurai, the temple of course.
One advice on the temple - visit it early AM. It is less crowded. You can see the temple. Note that no cell phones are allowed. Digital cameras may be allowed which needs to be checked.
Ideally one needs to wear two hats - that of a devotee (if you believe) and that of someone who appreciates ancient architecture. Budget two to three hours, earn your 10000 steps and find breakfast outside. Do not miss JIgarthanda.
A second day should be kept aside for the palace, and other small temples (thiruparankundram), Samanar jain temple, Gandhi museum (he took to Khadi here).
As far as hotels are concerned, pick one which is airconditioned, has a restaurant (many have roof top restaurants). Make sure that you get your afternoon naps when it is really hot outside.
As far as nature is concerned - Medhamalai and Kodaikanal are close by. Sirumalai - in eastern ghats looks undiscovered and fascinating.,

Meenakshi Amman temple is fantastic and would pile to visit.
Meenakshi Amman temple is fantastic and would pile to visit. However local commuting was difficult because taxis and auto drivers charge extra than the original price. It’s best to travel in own vehicles.

Madurai is a most amazing example of south India. with its great locations and temples, you get to talk and see people who are so nice and welcoming. happy to tell about their life and share the culture.
Medical services in the city are great.
I would be careful from the street food, and for non Indians I would make sure to have some packed food just in case.

Chaotic traffic perhaps Madurai drivers have their own rules of the road. Cleanliness found wanting. THe restaurant (Sabarish_ where we had food, though recommended to be good, was below average. THey dont have a Q management system and people wait behind making the diners uncomfortable. Privacy of eating is disturbed

I stayed 3 nights in AMIKA HOTEL MADURAI and I highly recommend this hotel. Location is only 7km from airport, quiet, great facilities (like fitness and spa), amazing breakfast buffet and very kind and helpful staff like Prasannakumar (Duty Manager) and Arul Doss (Restaurant Manager). Great service, thank you very much for making my stay so enjoyable.
Regency Madurai is a good option while visiting Madurai. Staffs are courteous and go extra mile to help you. Restaurant offers good food.
Location is good, away from the city centre still close. Tiruppuramkundram too is near by.
this is my third visit to this hotel and will opt again if visiting Madurai
Cheap no-frills hotel with a very good location. Don’t expect any luxury or extremely welcoming staff, but for a night or two in Madurai I was pleasantly surprised. very good shower with actual hot water was present.
